Vargas has decent statistics this year, but everybody knows better than to trust those at face value, right? He's way worse than what he's showing now, he was only used when the Dodgers were winning or losing by 10 or more runs, and he wasn't a factor in the team's future. Bye.
Since Vargas sucks, you could probably guess that the return for him wouldn't be much. Well, it wasn't, and the Dodgers got 29-year-old catcher Vinny Rottino. Vinny is hitting .249/.339/.323/.662 at AA this year, and he's probably not going to be a major leaguer anytime soon. He's what you would call "organizational depth". Joy.

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti only subtracted one, dealing right-hander Claudio Vargas to Milwaukee for Minor League catcher/first baseman Vinny Rottino.To be honest, the Dodgers could have just cut Claudio Vargas and I wouldn't have cared one bit.
Vargas had been pitching well, but only in mopup roles, and his departure cleared an active roster spot for George Sherrill, the former Orioles All-Star closer who Colletti acquired Thursday for prospects Josh Bell and Mike Johnson.
