Third baseman Juan Uribe is one of three Los Angeles Dodgers starters currently sidelined due to injury, and his left wrist ailment is one that potentially could keep on the disabled list longer than the minimum 15 days. Uribe had an MRI exam Tuesday that showed a left wrist sprain. When the Dodgers return to Los Angeles this weekend, he will see a hand specialist to determine the best course of action. "We feel like we'll be able to rest this thing and it will get better," manager Don Mattingly said. "If it doesn't, there are other steps we have to take." There is a chance Uribe could return reasonably close to when he is eligible to be activated, May 29. However, there is a chance he might need surgery, an option that has not yet been dismissed by the training staff. "Nothing has been ruled out. We want to let him see the hand specialist," trainer Sue Falsone said. Uribe has hit .250 with a .302 on-base percentage, a .338 slugging pe...

Matt Kemp Lands On DL, Sands Recalled

The Dodgers iron man Matt Kemp has been placed on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring. In a subsequent move Jerry Sands was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. Kemp, April's NL player of the month, was leading the NL in all three Triple Crown categories. On top of that, Kemp had played in a Major League high 399 games, last missing a game on August 18, 2009. That...

Dodgers make a slew of transactions in the past week

We're getting to that time of the season when players get hurt and roster moves a plenty are made. Most of the time, minor-leaguers are caught in the crosshairs -- and they aren't always promoted to the majors. In the past week week, the Dodgers have made the following moves: MLB Juan Rivera to DL, Scott Van Slyke recalled (May 9) Jerry Hairston to DL, Justin...

2012 MLB Mock Draft roundup, Dodgers' edition – Heaney, Hawkins, Hensley, Seager, Shaffer, Smoral

To get you in the MLB Draft mood, I'm rounding up all the (legitimate) mock drafts I can find and will see who others think the Dodgers should take with the No. 18 pick. The draft is June 4 through 6. Along with the 18th pick, the Dodgers also have the 51st pick, thanks to the Pittsburgh Pirates signing Rod Barajas. Baseball America: 3B/SS Corey Seager, Cabarrus High...

Matt Kemp & Juan Uribe Go Down, Jerry Sands & Elian Herrera Come Up

Matt Kemp will head to the disabled list with a hamstring problem and Jerry Sands will take his place. The Dodgers lost their best player on Monday night as Matt Kemp was placed on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain. The news was pretty much expected since before the game, when manager Don

The Dodgers' lineup is going to suck for a couple weeks; get over it

Hurry back, Matt. Look, we all know the Dodgers' lineup was going to suffer without Matt Kemp. But the overreaction to guys getting regular days off is astounding. The Dodgers lost today in San Diego 4-2. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Unfortunately for Chris Capuano, he wasn't as sharp today as he had been in his last six starts (5-0, 1.38 ERA...

Ethier makes first start as a center fielder

Given that Matt Kemp followed up his National League MVP runner-up season with a blistering start to the 2012 campaign, it's safe to say the Los Angeles Dodgers will have a hard time replacing their All-Star center fielder. Kemp, hitting .359 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI on the season, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained left hamstring. For the vast...

Mattingly is building Guerra back up for Dodgers

After blowing a save on May 6 at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs, pitcher Javy Guerra was demoted from the closer role. Guerra now pitches in middle relief, a role that is quite different for him. "It's different, but I like it. From the fourth inning on, I'm pretty in tune with the game and know what's going on. I'm trying to figure out the situation...

Harang hurls Dodgers past hometown Padres

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Aaron Harang held his former team to four hits in seven shutout innings and had one of Los Angeles' 12 hits as the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 8-1 Thursday night to split a two-game series. The Dodgers (25-13), who have the best record in the majors, are 1-2 since Matt Kemp went on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring. The Padres (14-25)...

The Los Angeles Dodgers put infielder Juan Uribe on the 15-day disabled list with a left wrist injury, the team announced Monday. The team also purchased the contract of Elian Herrera from Triple-A Albuquerque. Uribe was hitting .250 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 25 games, all as a third baseman. The switch-hitting Herrera was hitting .358 with two homers in 28 games for...

Punk Hit: Running Hot and Cold by Ian Miller

Today, Ian Miller joins our team. Ian previously wrote a ProGUESTus piece about minor-league baseball, and he blogs and podcasts as one half of Productive Outs. A Punk Hit, according to the Dickson Baseball Dictionary, refers to a base hit that is softly struck but placed well.   We’re roughly 20 percent of the way through the 2012 baseball season, and I have to file a column...

After Impressive Series Opening Win, New-Look Pads Drop Finale to Dodgers.

The Padres returned back home and had one of their most satisfying wins of the season, beating Los Angeles 4-2 Wednesday afternoon. Suddenly the next day, Josh Byrnes made a major shakeup to the Padres roster. He elected to outright release Orlando Hudson, swallowing 7.5 million dollars and also placed struggling shortstop Jason Bartlett on the disabled list. The corresponding moves...

The Chicago Cubs signed recently released Mike MacDougal to a Minor League deal according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune. MacDougal was released by the Dodgers a couple of days ago. Dodgers-Padres Preview

The Los Angeles Dodgers tend to have little trouble with the San Diego Padres and giving the ball to Chris Capuano is likely to keep it that way for now. Capuano goes for his best start to a season in his eight-year career Wednesday night when the Dodgers visit the Padres for the opener of this two-game set. Los Angeles (24-12) has won 16 of the last 19 meetings with San Diego...
