The Mets claimed Egbert from the White Sox at the end of the season, the former Rutgers standout and top prospect had fallen out of grace in Chicago. Egbert was designated for assignment to make room for outfielder Jason Pridie and after not being claimed Egbert chose to remain with the club. This is what he told NJ.com as to why he decided to stay with the Mets...“Since I’ve been here it’s been great,” Egbert said. “Everyone’s treating me really well, making me feel comfortable. It definitely gives you a new life, clean slate. You kind of forget about the troubles you’ve had the last two years. Obviously they wanted me here, so it just helps out in that aspect. It makes you feel wanted, makes you really want to perform well.” source NJ.comArturo Lopez was also designated for assignment to make room for Rod Barajas and after making it through waivers, he has decided to stay with the organization ( source MLBTR). Other then being a lefty I have no idea why he's still around.
