Found October 30, 2011 on Phillies Nation:
Lots of options were picked up Saturday, and two may slightly impact the Phillies’ offseason plans.Ryan Dempster predictably exercised his $14 million player option to remain with the Cubs in 2012. It’s not as if the Phillies were eyeing Dempster, but his return to the Cubs means one less front-to-mid rotation starting pitcher will be on the free agent market. The list of available hurlers is not pretty, and the more names crossed off the list, the higher the chances are that another team will overpay for Roy Oswalt. After C.J. Wilson, there is no truly enticing starting pitcher to realistically be signed. (It’s not as if the Yankees and CC Sabathia will fail to reach a common ground). If Wilson, who struggled in the playoffs, is alone in the top tier of starting pitchers, then Oswalt, Hiroki Kuroda and Edwin Jackson make up the shallow second tier.Another option exercised over the weekend affected the Phillies more directly…The option picked up over the weekend which af...

About That Herndon Guy…

The 2011 Phillies Nation Player Reviews continue today, with David Herndon…Remember this?…And I think he just gave up another walk, followed by a home run, causing a profanity-laced meltdown in the infield. His mind is like Mr. Potato Head (or Señor Cara de Papa if you are speaking to Carlos Ruiz) when he gets into trouble, because, think about it–what happens when Mr. Potato...

Ryan Madson Player Projection No. 158

Key Stats: 48.8% - Ryan Madson's ground ball percentage. The Phillies play in a band box, but no one gets HR's if they hit the ball on the ground. Madson has a great ability to strike guys out (9.08, 10.87 and 9.20 K/9 since 2009) and not allow well hit balls. Despite a BABIP of .315 (.300 is considered about average) the numbers on hit balls are favorable. His line drive...
