LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Yasiel Puig had four hits and two stolen bases after getting benched in his previous game, and Adrian Gonzalez hit a pair of two-run homers to help the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 9-2 on Friday night. The teams met for the first time since a four-game series at San Diego in June, when the Dodgers lost the first two and fell a season-worst 9 games behind Arizona in the NL West. But they won the next two, triggering a 46-10 stretch that vaulted them a season-best 10 games ahead of the Diamondbacks on Aug. 23 -- the same margin Los Angeles enjoys with 28 games remaining. A.J. Ellis homered in the seventh inning immediately after Gonzalez's second of the game and 19th this season. Hanley Ramirez's two-run double preceded the back-to-back homers off reliever Anthony Bass.

Yasiel Puig responds to benching as Los Angeles Dodgers cruise to victory

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie outfielder Yasiel Puig (photo credit: Gary A. Vasquez/USA TODAY-Sports) After playing only four innings and being benched in the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday afternoon game against the Chicago Cubs, Yasiel Puig responded with four hits, moving his multi-hit game tally to 33, and also added two stolen bases for good measure on Friday night as the Dodgers...

Yasiel Puig benched for not sliding, loafing in outfield (Video)

Yasiel Puig has been an outstanding player for the Los Angeles Dodgers since being called up in June, but he has also been immature and committed many small mistakes. His teammates have called him out for his poor fundamentals, such as not hitting the cutoff man on throws or making baserunning mistakes. On Wednesday, Dodgers […]

Yasiel Puig Won the Game for the Dodgers Today

The game was tied 1-1 when the Dodgers hero stepped to the plate and delivered one of those trademark streamer fly balls into the middle part of those yellow bleachers beyond the Dodgers outfield. Vin Scully gave his customary home run call – “She is gone” and with that the Dodgers took another game in that glistening park of theirs out in LA. Puig had two hits on the day...

Dodgers' Yasiel Puig benched, not injured

During yesterday's game, Yasiel Puig was pulled in the fifth inning by manager Don Mattingly.  There was some initial concern that he may have been hurt, but that was not the case.  Instead, Puig was benched for disciplinary reasons. According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, Mattingly benched Puig for "effort," but neither he nor anyone else on the team would elaborate...

Puig bounces back from benching with 4-hit night

LOS ANGELES Whatever turmoil may have taken place with the Dodgers this week ended the moment Yasiel Puig ran from the dugout to right field in the top of the first inning on Friday. Everything went back to normal for the Dodgers -- in every possible way. Puig had four hits, Adrian Gonzalez hit two home runs, pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu won his 13th game, and the Dodgers well, they...

CONFIRMED: Yasiel Puig Still has a Cannon

It is baffling that folks still think it is a smart idea to test Yasiel Puig’s arm. The latest victim of the Puig cannon was Rene Rivera who tried to score on an Andrew Cashner’s single. The result was what you would expect it to be. [MLB] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Yasiel Puig and Tony LaRussa face off

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig and former MLB manager Tony LaRussa went head to head on Thursday but not in the way you think. The two faced off in a game of ping pong at a tournament hosted by Clayton Kershaw to benefit his nonprofit foundation. From the photos it looks like these two were really into it too. Hopefully LaRussa gave him a little advice about baseball as...

Yasiel Puig Situation Handled Perfectly by Don Mattingly, Who Really Had No Choice But to Bench Polarizing Slugger

Don Mattingly had no choice. Mattingly’s handling of Cuban phenom Yasiel Puig has been one of the most polarizing topics of the baseball season, with the most recent buzz coming Wednesday when Mattingly benched Puig before the fifth inning of a game against the Cubs. Wednesday’s decision once again opened up the debate over whether or not Mattingly is pulling the right strings...

Your Saturday Baseball Post

I’ll be honest, I’m slacking. I’ve been watching college football all day. There wasn’t a lot of baseball on. And NCAA football is the perfect backdrop to doze off to – I’m exhausted from staying up late watching Yasiel Puig slash four hits against the Padres out in Los Angeles like he did last night. Saturday is the best day of the week and no longer belongs to solely...

“Oh to be 22 and a Dodger.”

I am stealing a segment from Real Time with Bill Maher – New Rule: no more running on Yasiel Puig. So Saturday night San Diego Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner hit a single to right field which made Rene Rivera commit to running to home plate from second base. Keep in mind that there were already two outs with the Padres up 1-0 so maybe it could be argued that Rivera should have stayed...
