PHOENIX -- Encouraged by how his elbow felt Wednesday in his first game in nearly three weeks, Zack Greinke said he thought he could be ready to pitch at the start of the regular season. I hope so, Greinke said. My arm felt really good today. It felt strong. Greinke faced Chicago White Sox minor league players for four innings, throwing 43 pitches and facing one batter more than the minimum. He gave up a single, hit a batter and induced a double play. I wasnt perfect, he said. You saw me upset with several pitches. But first outing in two weeks, thats kind of expected. Greinke, who received an injection of platelet-rich plasma in his sore elbow nine days earlier, last started a game March 1. Greinke is scheduled to pitch twice more during the exhibition season, on March 25 and 30. He said that should be enough to build up his arm strength and gain the necessary sharpness to pitch in the regular season. The way the rotation is lined up, Greinke could make his first start of the season April 5 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Greinke, who previously said he wouldnt rush back, said Wednesday that he would like to pitch that game against the Pirates. I like pitching, Greinke said. I want to pitch 34 starts, the whole regular season. I dont want to miss one day. Dylan Hernandez

Injury Roll Call: Hanley out weeks & set for MRI, Greinke ready, Bills hurts everything but elbow

Dodgers designated hitter third baseman first baseman? shortstop Hanley Ramirez jammed his right thumb while diving for a groundball in the World Baseball Classic and he’ll get an MRI today at the Camelback Ranch. Your browser does not support iframes. His manager and general manager give differing takes on the severity of it. “I don’t think it’s bad,” Dominican coach Alfredo...

Making Moves: Dodgers sign 4, cut 8 (including McPherson), release 3 (Guerra/Gwynn)

Javy Guerra has been optioned to AAA after a rough Spring in which he dealt with injury and has been limited to just a couple of appearances in-game. The Dodgers have a stacked pen and with Guerra’s injuries and struggles at times last year he was going to have to excel during Spring Training in order to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster. Tony Gwynn, Jr. has also been assigned...

First impression of Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Not an ace, but not bad, either

Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched at Camelback Ranch on Sunday -- the last day of my spring training trip. I was lucky enough to see him on that day. While it started off rough, he ended up throwing a gem (by spring training standards). Ryu gave up a run on three hits in the first inning, with little help from his defense. Luckily for Ryu, Adrian Gonzalez hit a 3-run home run in the first...

Dee Gordon deserves another chance in light of Hanley Ramirez injury

As news broke this morning of Hanley Ramirez's injury (out at least eight weeks), the reality of Juan Uribe remaining with the club became a virtual lock. Manager Don Mattingly already said Luis Cruz would take over at shortstop for Ramirez, which makes a little sense, I suppose. But I'd rather see Dee Gordon take it and have Cruz remain at third base. Gordon, who...

Podcast: 'Dugout Blues' episode 28 - Dodgers, Ryu, Crawford, Puig, Seager

On this episode of "Dugout Blues," Jared Massey (Dodger Diamond) and I give a brief recap of our spring training trip. Don't worry, we'll have a more in-depth recap later this week or next Tuesday. I got to see Hyun-Jin Ryu pitch in person. Aside from his shaky first inning, he was nails. It was his best performance of the spring. We also talk about Carl ...

Ramirez to miss start of the season

The Los Angeles Dodgers wanted Hanley Ramirez to be their Opening Day shortstop. That is not going to happen, because of an injury he suffered during the World Baseball Classic. Ramirez will have surgery on his right thumb Friday and will miss about two months, the Dodgers announced Thursday. "The MRI on Hanley Ramirez's right thumb indicates that the ligament that stabilizes...

Ramirez leaves WBC with injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a new injury concern. Hanley Ramirez, slated to be their Opening Day shortstop, left Tuesday's World Baseball Classic after five innings, apparently because of a jammed right thumb. Ramirez, as the Dominican Republic's third baseman, sustained the injury while diving for a ball. Veteran Miguel Tejada replaced him to begin the top of the sixth...

2013 X-Factor: Los Angeles Dodgers

It's really tough for a player with five years and more than $100 million remaining on his contract to be labeled as an x-factor. But when that player is just two seasons removed from a seven win season and has amassed less than one win over the last two seasons...yeah, he's got a chance to make a bit of an impact going forward. My x-factor for the Los Angeles Dodgers...

Dodgers honor Taylor-Green's memory

TUCSON, AZ The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs wore their traditional blue and white uniforms as they played an exhibition game, won by Los Angeles, 5-4, with a crowd of over 11,000 in attendance. The mood, however, was colored Green and the real winners were the memory of a little girl who had her life taken away in a most brutal and senseless fashion, and the city of Tucson...
