Phillies win again; continue to inch closer in the standings

The problem with a Wild Card race is, and particularly with the Phillies pursuit of a wild card spot right now, is that you have to count on so many things to happen. Most importantly you have to win. Then you have to count on other teams that you’re not playing to lose. Everyone held up their end of the bargain last night, and the Philadelphia Phillies are suddenly 4 games out...

Phillies Keep Wild Card in Sights with Win Over Miami

KK was great again (AP). Behind Kyle Kendrick and Dom Brown, the Phillies inched closer to the Cardinals in the Wild Card standings with a 3-1 win over the Marlins. KENDRICK GOES NO-NO FOR FIVE -Kendrick did not give up a hit until the sixth inning, after Rob Brantly singled a sharp liner to center field. Two pitches prior to that base hit, Kendrick appeared to have Brantly struck...

Offense Powers Phils Past Miami, Reach .500

Utley reached base five times tonight, powering a surging Phillies club. Photo: AP The Phillies offense bailed-out a good-but-not-great effort by Roy Halladay and a near-meltdown in the 55 minute seventh inning to win 9-7, winning their sixth in a row, and reaching the .500 mark for the first time since June 4. Big stops by B.J. Rosenberg and Phillippe Aumont powered the Phils out...

Some Highlights of the 2013 Phillies Schedule

The good news is that 2012 is not over yet.  But it is still fun to look ahead and start thinking of next summer to places to travel.  One of my favorite Phillies things to do is to see them play on the road and use it as an excuse to see cities I might not otherwise get to.   So here are a few of the Phillies schedule highlights that have caught my eye: April 30 - May...

Phillies at .500 now…..so does this mean the fans come will back?

Philadelphia, Pa – The Phillies beat Miami 9-7 and now at .500. They are the hottest team in baseball winning 10 of their last 12 games. The Phillies find themselves 4.5 games out a wild-card spot with 20 games left. This poses the question will the band-wagon fans that turned their backs on the Phillies do a one-eighty and come back?  If the Phillies keep winning then the...

Marlins outslugged by Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Jimmy Rollins homered and drove in three runs and Roy Halladay won again as the streaking Philadelphia Phillies outslugged the Miami Marlins 9-7 on Tuesday night for their sixth straight win. Despite allowing five runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings, Halladay (10-7) improved to 4-0 in his last five starts. The right-hander walked three and struck out six. ...

Marlins no match for surging Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Kyle Kendrick struck out a career-high eight over seven strong innings to lead the surging Philadelphia Phillies to their fifth straight win, 3-1 over the Miami Marlins on Monday night. Staked to a 3-0 lead, Kendrick (9-10) took a no-hitter into the sixth before Rob Brantly's leadoff single. The right-hander escaped a bases-loaded jam when he struck out...

Fifteen-Hit Night Leads to 9-7 Win Over Marlins, Phillies Back at .500 Baseball

The Phillies are playing some exciting baseball right now, no doubt about that. Winning the wild card isn't too out of the question, but the Phillies are making it look more and more likely with the way they've been hitting the ball.  The Phils scored first tonight in the first inning. With the bases loaded, Ryan Howard hit into a double play which scored Jimmy Rollins...

Lee, Johnson Battle in Pitcher's Duel, Phillies Push to Seven Straight Wins

Last night's wacky 9-7 win must have exhausted the Phillies, as well the Marlins. On a travel day, this evening's game got underway at 4:05, so the two teams had to battle some nasty shadows. Unfortunately for the Fish, they also had to battle Cliff Lee. Let's skip ahead to the sixth inning with the score still at 0-0. Josh Johnson had not given up a hit through...

Phillies open 2013 in Atlanta, home opener vs. Kansas City

Go ahead and start your road trip planning now. The Phillies have joined the rest of Major League Baseball in unveiling their 2013 schedule, which will commence in Atlanta on April 1, 2013. As previsouly reported, the Phillies will open their home schedule at Citizens Bank Park against the Kansas City Royals on April 5. This year's schedule will feature one inter-league series...

Not the Astros… Not Now

With a 35-21 record since the All-Star break, the Phillies have finally gotten over the .500 mark at 72-71. With 19 games left to play, they are a mere three games behind the Cardinals for the elusive second wild-card berth in the National League. With Jimmy Rollins playing like a superhero, Kyle Kendrick pitching like a fourth ace, and the lineup and bullpen rounding into form...

Phillies-Astros Preview

An improbable run by the Philadelphia Phillies has pulled them within three games of the second NL wild card after being on pace to miss the playoffs just a few months ago. Helped by a favorable schedule, the Phillies will face a third straight division cellar dweller as they open a four-game series against the Houston Astros on Thursday night. After looking like it was out of...

The Phils reached the .500 mark as they hang on to defeat the pesky Marlins, 9-7.

The Phils win their sixth straight game as they finally reach the .500 mark as they hang on to defeat the Marlins, 9-7. The Phils took the lead in the first as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre, with Rollins stopping at second base, and a walk by Chase Utley, with both runners moving up a base, and with nobody out, Ryan Howard hits into a double...
