Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez will miss eight weeks with a torn ligament in his right thumb. He'll undergo surgery on Friday in Los Angeles, and probably won't be back with the team until mid to late May. Ramirez suffered the thumb injury in the WBC championship game on Tuesday against Puerto Rico, when he dove for a Jesus Feliciano grounder and landed awkwardly on his hand. With Ramirez out to start the year, it looks like the Dodgers will be forced to reluctantly turn to Dee Gordon at short. Gordon hit a wretched .228/.280/.281 for the Dodgers in 330 plate appearances in 2012, contributing 32 stolen bases and -1.1 fWAR to the team. His struggles were essentially the reason that the team even acquired Ramirez. Now, Gordon is going to be back in the spotlight for the Dodgers, and things are about to get a lot more difficult to start the year. Ramirez joins Carl Crawford as projected Dodgers offensive starters that will begin the year on the DL, and starting pitcher Zack Greinke may join them due to an inflammed elbow. Don't crown them just yet, folks. [follow]
