Manny Parra was not always my favorite player. Some of you might remember when I said the Reds should give out booze, like they do with 11 strikeout pizza, when Parra and Alfredo Simon pitched in the same game. Parra has been pretty great lately, something I attributed to his Boston Rob like facial hair. After he got out of a late inning jam in the Reds win last night, I made more Boston Rob jokes. Because I'm a weird guy, I took the issue to Parra himself. NEW. FAVORITE. PLAYER. If you are wondering, Parra's twitter is verified. And I couldn't find a picture of him with his beard to compare to Boston Rob. Twitter is the best sometimes. This is one of those times.

Mike Leake notches 10th win in unique fashion

Mike Leake improved his season record to a team-best 10-4 on Wednesday as the Reds turned away the Giants, 8-3, at AT&T Park. However, the manner in which Leake emerged victorious is somewhat unique. Leake won the game in spite of allowing a whopping 12 hits in six innings of work. The 25-year-old became the first pitcher since Marlins right-hander Ricky Nolasco in...

Mesoraco following a game-tying home run in May.Everybody’s writing about the recent success that Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco has been having this month. First, Red Reporter talks about how Mesoraco, kind of forgotten, may well become the right-handed impact bat the Reds have sorely needed. [T]he 2013 Reds lack an offensive player who is outperforming expectations. They’re...

Injury Report

Ryan Ludwick Ryan Ludwick was sent out on rehab assignment with the class A Dayton Dragons yesterday while they played the Lansing Lugnuts. Ludwick was the DH and had three plate appearances. He popped out, walked, and singled. Nice that he’s trying out all the possibilities. Perhaps tonight he could try out that home run muscle. Ludwick has been out of the major league line-up...

The Dodgers Pull Off Nifty Trick Play And Really Confuse Shin-Soo Choo

Shin-Soo Choo of the Reds will probably never hear the end of this one, especially from his teammates. Friday night when his Reds took on the Dodgers, Choo took off from first on a hit and run and paid a little too much attention to Hanley Ramirez of the Dodgers who pretended he had grabbed the ball as it flew by him and into center field. Skip Schumacher also played an integral...

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Mat Latos threw 7 2-3 innings and the Cincinnati Reds got home runs from Jay Bruce and Xavier Paul to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2 on Thursday night, ending the NL West leaders' six-game winning streak. Latos (10-3) allowed two runs -- one earned -- and eight hits with four strikeouts en route to his first victory at Dodger Stadium after going 0-5 with...

Dodgers get one over on Choo — twice

Shin-Soo Choo is a career .289 hitter and bats leadoff for a playoff contender. But on Thursday night, he fell victim to two of the oldest tricks in the book, making the Reds-Dodgers game look like something out of "The Bad News Bears." The trouble for the Cinicannati center fielder started in the fourth inning, as he fell victim to a baserunning ploy by Los Angeles rookie...

Leake leads Reds past Giants, 8-3

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The Cincinnati Reds found just about every way to beat the San Francisco Giants this season after falling in frustrating fashion to the World Series champions last October. Mike Leake led the latest -- and perhaps wackiest -- performance Wednesday night, pitching six-plus innings of wildly effective ball in Cincinnati's 8-3 victory over San Francisco. Leake...
