Phillies news, yes! Earlier today, we posted a photo of Roy Halladay throwing at Citizens Bank Park, despite the temperature (and the Winter Classic preparation). Now, we have some Hunter Pence news. Not long after the Phillies were eliminated from the playoffs, Pence underwent surgery for a sports hernia. Pence spoke to Bernarda Fallas of the Daily News and sounded very optimistic. "The recovery is going well." “I’m going to be good to go ... It’s supposed to be a 3-to-6-week recovery, and it’s going all right. I’m already good to play. I’m able to swing and run, and now it’s just a little bit of working out the scar tissue.”

3 men sentenced in fatal attack

Three men who fatally attacked a man outside a Philadelphia Phillies game in a brawl police say was sparked by a spilled drink have been sentenced to prison terms. Thirty-year-old Francis Kirchner, 37-year-old Charles Bowers and 48-year-old James Groves each pleaded guilty in October to voluntary manslaughter and criminal conspiracy in the July 2009 death of David Sale Jr. Kirchner...

Rollins Returns to Philadelphia

In perhaps the least shocking move of the offseason, the Phillies re-signed Jimmy Rollins over the weekend. While the possibility always existed that he would sign elsewhere, the availability of several shortstop stopgaps drastically reduced his number of suitors. The remaining teams with shortstop vacancies lacked either the payroll flexibility to pay him eight figures per year...

Rumors: Interest isn’t mutual between Yankees and Oswalt

This morning we heard that free agent starter Roy Oswalt is just looking for a one-year deal as opposed to the three-year contract he was supposedly seeking. This seemed to have opened the door for the Yankees to get involved in bidding for his services since they aren’t looking to sign any pitchers on multi-year deals. However, this does not seem to be the case. Oswalt is...

J-Roll Rolls on in Philly

The longest-tenured professional athlete in Philadelphia is going to add to his legacy in the City of Brotherly Love. The Phillies made it official Monday, inking shortstop Jimmy Rollins to a three-year, $33-million contract -- with an option for a fourth season -- that could keep him in red pinstripes through 2015. “We were able to work through things and get a fair deal...

Phils make it official, Rollins signs new deal

Jimmy Rollins is staying where he feels he belongs, and he'll be doing so for the long haul. The 33-year-old shortstop agreed over the weekend to a three-year, $33 million contract, and the Phillies officially announced the deal Monday.

Answering the Question

Yes. The difference between the Yankees and Phillies of recent years is that the Yankees keep mixing in younger players to complement their older stars. They also had Robinson Cano and Brett Gardner emerge as fine players from this strategy. The Phillies also brought along their young players at an older age, think Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. That’s great if the team...
