Seriously though, the dude is awesome this year. In 6 innings today, Park struck out 7 and limited the Giants to 6 baserunners and 1 run. Unfortunately, Joe Beimel, Brian Falkenborg (Seriously? Falkenborg?), and Cory Wade combined to screw Park out of the win. Regardless, he shouldn't let those pieces of shit (except Beimel) rain on his comeback parade. When I last covered Park, I speculated that he would either have to improve his peripheral numbers or he would end up eventually falling victim to an ERA normalization. When I said that, his K/BB ratio was 1.00, his K/9 rate was 3.72, and his BB/9 rate was 3.72. 6 weeks later, Park has indeed improved his peripherals to the tune of a 2.09 K/BB ratio, a 7.08 K/9 rate, and a 3.39 BB/9 rate. All of this adds up to a significant improvement, and goes toward his long-term legitimacy. In addition to all of the ratio improvements, Park's BABIP numbers also indicate that he's legit. Back in late May, his BABIP of .242 told me that he was getting luckier than he would in the long run. Now, however, his BABIP sits at around .289, and his WHIP still hasn't increased.
