Chad Billingsley has arguably been the Los Angeles Dodgers' best pitcher since the All-Star break, but the club could be without him for the rest of the season, if not longer. The right-hander received an injection of platelet-rich plasma in his right elbow on Thursday. The move was an attempt to see if Billingsley can pitch again this season. An initial MRI showed enough, even with swelling around his inflamed right elbow, to put him on the disabled list on August 25. Billingsley will have another MRI on his elbow once the swelling goes down to see if there is any further damage. There have been two red flags from within the organization regarding Billingsley's health in the last week. In the press conference to announce the nine-player trade with the Boston Red Sox that included pitcher Josh Beckett, Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti mentioned that Billingsley "would be out for a long time." Then on Wednesday in a question-and-answer session with fans, t...

Dodgers' Jansen out indefinitely; season over?

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking forward to roster expansion in September because their bullpen has suffered major blows this week. On Wednesday alone, both Scott Elbert and Kenley Jansen were announced as out. Elbert hit the disabled list just 10 days after getting activated from the DL, with the same left elbow inflammation that sidelined him for three weeks in July and August...

D-backs look to continue dominance of Dodgers

If the Dodgers are to end their recent rough stretch, they must find a way to achieve some rare success against the Diamondbacks this season. Facing Trevor Cahill won't make things any easier. The Dodgers look to avoid an eighth consecutive loss to the Diamondbacks on Friday night at Chavez Ravine. Ian Kennedy and three relievers held Los Angeles (70-62) to five hits in a...

D-backs' road trip begins vs. Dodgers

It's been a so-so stretch for the Los Angeles Dodgers since their blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox. Their results against the Arizona Diamondbacks this season haven't been close to mediocre. Tim Federowicz, Alex Castellanos, Javy Guerra Lead Potential September Helpers

Now that rosters have expanded, let the speculation on who gets the September call begin! Pump the brakes a bit though, because unfortunately for the people who wish to see young players show their stuff: 1) the 40-man roster is full 2) guys on the 60-day DL are due to return 3) um … the

D-backs' 'Survial Swing' off to a very good start

LOS ANGELES Game 2 of the Diamondbacks' Survival Swing built on the first. Another victory over the Dodgers, whose recent big-money moves have not brought them immediate return. Another game closer to the pack. The D-backs claimed they embraced the pressure that the current 10-game road trip would bring when they left Chase Field on Wednesday afternoon after a miserable 2...

Mattingly calls team meeting following loss

Are they listening now? Are they? Is there actually reason to believe things with the Dodgers will be different after Manager Don Mattingly kept the clubhouse doors closed for approximately 15 minutes for a team meeting following Thursdays 2-0 loss to the Diamondbacks? Mattingly is not particularly fond of these things, but after watching his listless-looking team give away early...

A Primer on Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy and Why it’s the Hot Treatment with Pro Athletes

So as I was listening to the first part of the game tonight, I heard Vin mention that Chad Billingsley is having a form of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy to help his ailing elbow.  I happen to know a little about PRP, as I’m set to undergo the procedure myself in just under two weeks.  Important note: I am NOT a doctor…this is a layman’s assessment of PRP for the purposes...
