Joey Votto made history on Friday.
With two hits, Votto set a new Reds single season record by reaching base 312 times by a combination of walks, hits, and hit-by-pitch. At the time of this writing, he had reached base three more times on Saturday, increasing his overall mark to 315. The previous record was set by Pete Rose in 1969.
Votto credits his ability to play every single game as cause for notching the record. The Canadian native was limited to just 111 games a season ago, but is on the brink of appearing in all 162 games this year, assuming he plays on Sunday.
“I was really very excited and really happy about that achievement, it’s a combination of playing every day, that’s something Pete was very, very good at,” Votto said. I don’t know if it’s a skill or luck or determination or personality trait, but for whatever it was that helped him play every single day, he did that consistently over the course of his career. That was the stat, that I’ve played ...

Ryan Ludwick drew the ire of many Reds fans on Wednesday when he expressed his discontent with the lack of intensity and energy in the stadium during the series against the New York Mets. Now, the 35-year-old has issued a series of comments addressing the matter, which he hopes will help clear the air between him and the fans.
In an interview with legendary sports writer Hal...
Joey Votto leads the Reds offense into the playoffs, but who else will be on the roster?
It appears the fate of Cincinnati's 2013 season will fall upon the arm of Johnny Cueto on Tuesday.
Following Saturday's loss to the Pirates, manager Dusty Baker announced that Cueto, and not Mat Latos, will get the ball for the Wild Card game at PNC Park. Baker cited the fact that Latos is currently battling arm soreness as part of the reason for the change.
Right-hander Mat Latos has a bone chip in his elbow and will be unavailable for the Cincinnati Reds' wild card playoff game Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
The Reds are hopeful that with a couple of days of treatment, Latos' elbow could improve enough that he'll be available if Cincinnati wins the one-game playoff and advances to the division series.
Manager Dusty Baker had...
Wrapping up how each of the Cincinnati Reds affiliates home parks play in the minor leagues.
Cincinnati Reds' second baseman Brandon Phillips left Saturday afternoon's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth inning after fouling a ball off his left shin.
As reported by Mark Sheldon and Jeremy Warnemuende of MLB.com, Phillips hit a 1-0 fastball from Charlie Morton into his lower left leg near the ankle. Phillips backed
out of the box and was in obvious...
It should go without saying, but this weekend could very well mark the biggest regular season series in Great American Ball Park history as the Reds play host to the Pirates. Both teams have already punched their proverbial ticket to the postseason, however, the right to host next Tuesday's Wild Card game is still very much up for grabs. It should make for an electric atmosphere...
One of Homer Bailey's greatest moments came a year ago at PNC Park. He doesn't want to have to go back there again this season.
The Cincinnati Reds will have to win their last two games of the season to avoid that return trip.
Marlon Byrd had three hits and Pedro Alvarez hit a two-run homer high off the batter's eye on Friday night, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates over...
Attacking the Reds` leadoff hitter and OBP extraordinaire.
It’s only the biggest three game regular season series in my lifetime. That’s all that’s about to kick off this weekend.
The Cincinnati Reds host the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three game series that ends the 2013 season. The winner of the series will host the one-game Wildcard playoff on Tuesday.
The truth is, I’m still not over what happened to end last season. It has been...
Maybe you can’t get enough baseball. Maybe you want to mourn the Giants’ season. Maybe you’re a West Coast yinzer! Maybe you just love Joey Votto. Or maybe you want to drink good beer and talk beer or baseball with the FanGraphs and BeerGraphs crew. We might even have an unlisted guest or two show up.

The Reds can't catch a break lately.Aside from losing the first two games of the weekend series to the Pirates, and subsequently fumbling the opportunity to host Tuesday's Wild Card game at Great American Ball Park, Brandon Phillips was forced to leave Saturday's game with an apparent injury to his left shin. The play occurred during Phillips' at-bat in the bottom...
Is Billy Hamilton a Wise September Call Up?
Every now and then, a player comes along that really captures the attention of fantasy baseball players. Often, that’s because he has put up some gaudy minor league statistics.
SEPTEMBER STEAL: Billy Hamilton scored the winning run for the Reds in one run wins on September 3 and 7 and stole 4 bases in one game versus the Astros.
Pirates (91-68) at Reds (90-69)
7:10 PM–Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati
Here we go. The Bucs are in Cincinnati for the weekend (and only the weekend, hopefully) as they look to secure home field advantage for a playoff game on Tuesday night. As you surely know by now, they need to win 2 of 3 despite the current one game lead in the standings. And I...
If I'm being perfectly honest with all of you, the main thing that I wanted to see the Pirates do this weekend was play better baseball than the Reds for most of the weekend. As I've been saying for a few days now, I'd love for that playoff game to be at PNC Park on Tuesday, but I also realize that the outcome of that game is much more important than where the game is...
