As many fantasy owners feared, Matt Kemp was placed on the 15-day DL with a hamstring injury Monday night. So, the million-dollar question becomes how does one compensate for the loss of a fantasy superstar the leads the National League in runs (29), slugging (.726) and OPS (1.173), is second in home runs (12), and third in batting average (.359) and RBI (28)? The short answer is: you don't. Fantasy owners must simply bite the bullet and bust out a temporary tourniquet to ease the bleeding. Here are my top five, widely available outfield replacements for Kemp (ranked by ownership percentage): Josh Reddick (.289 / 9 HR / 20 RBI / 25 R) Analysis: You can file Reddick's recent surge of power under "things we didn't see coming." His nine home runs already passed his previous season-high of seven. He's available in about 40 percent of leagues and could be the top Matt Kemp bandage for the next two weeks if you can scoop him up. Yonder Alonso (.306 / 1 HR / 11 RBI / 7 R) Analysis: Plays in a tough home ballpark, but one of the big pieces in the trade that sent Mat Latos to Cincinnati is starting to produce for the Padres. Alonso's batting average has risen about 50 points this month and he is driving in some runs. Allen Craig (.372 / 5 HR / 16 RBI / 7 R) Analysis: Even with the threat of lost playing time due to the return of Lance Berkman, Craig continues to mash. He's got a modest five-game hitting streak going with three home runs during that stretch. Mike Trout (.283 / 2 HR / 7 RBI / 8 R) Analysis: The Angels' top prospect is hitting .333 in May with a couple stolen bases and homers. Raul Ibanez (.261 / 7 HR / 22 RBI / 10 R) Analysis: The good news is he's getting consistent playing time with Brett Gardner on the disabled list. He's hit four home runs in May.
