After center fielder Matt Kemp went hitless in his first eight minor league at-bats -- with one ball out of the infield -- Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly said Kemp might be asked to continue his rehabilitation assignment beyond Sunday. Kemp is expected to be the designated hitter for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday and Sunday. Mattingly said Kemp has not reported any discomfort in his injured left ankle. "Baseball-wise, he isn't comfortable yet," Mattingly said. "I don't think we're worried about center field. His timing doesn't sound very good yet." Kemp has not played since he sprained the ankle July 21. Mattingly said Kemp would not want to return until he can contribute and said the minor league struggles were not overly concerning given his prolonged layoff. "It's hard to jump in there at 94-95 mph when you haven't seen it regularly," Mattingly said. Kemp has played in 62 of the Dodgers' first 135 games. He is ...

Kemp ready to move past 0-for-5 rehab start

Matt Kemp shrugged off the bad taste of going 0-for-5 in a Class-A game Thursday. I havent played in more than five weeks, Kemp said after striking out, grounding into two double plays and hitting just one ball out of the infield -- a ninth-inning fly to center field that ended his Rancho Cucamonga Quakes loss against the High Desert Mavericks. Kemp, returning to the field for...

Dodgers' Matt Kemp will not be activated today

Matt Kemp is not yet comfortable at the plate.  The Los Angeles Dodgers' outfielder has played in three rehab games, but he has struggled at the plate in each of them.  The original plan was to have him activated today, but Kemp is going to extend his minor league rehabilitation assignment in order to gain some additional comfort at the plate. Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles...

Dodgers' Matt Kemp goes 0 for 5 in first rehab game

Matt Kemp looked a little rusty while DH'ing for Rancho Cucamonga last night in his first minor league rehab game since injuring his ankle.  The Los Angeles Dodgers superstar is likely going to return to the Dodgers' active roster next week, but the team is trying to get him as much action as possible before Rancho Cucmonga's season ends on Monday. Austin Laymance...

Matt Kemp Goes 0-For-5 In First Rehab Game

Matt Kemp is having one heck of a hard time returning to full health. Kemp began a rehab assignment in Single A on Thursday and went 0 for 5 on the night. Kemp had a strike out and two double plays. Kemp is recovering from injuries on his shoulder and ankles–injuries which have seen him miss the bulk of games this season. Kemp did shrug off  the less than stellar start, and...

Matt Kemp still isn’t comfortable, may not return on Monday

Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp made his second rehab start with Rancho Cucamonga yesterday but still doesn’t feel comfortable yet reports Bill Shaikin. Kemp has been sidelined since July 22 with a sprained ankle. The hope was that Kemp would make a few rehab starts and be ready to return to the Dodgers after this weekend but it sounds like Kemp will need some more time. He is 0...

Yasiel Puig Situation Handled Perfectly by Don Mattingly, Who Really Had No Choice But to Bench Polarizing Slugger

Don Mattingly had no choice. Mattingly’s handling of Cuban phenom Yasiel Puig has been one of the most polarizing topics of the baseball season, with the most recent buzz coming Wednesday when Mattingly benched Puig before the fifth inning of a game against the Cubs. Wednesday’s decision once again opened up the debate over whether or not Mattingly is pulling the right strings...

McDonnell Podcast: Dodgers' Don Mattingly

LOS ANGELES On June 21, the Dodgers were an injury-ravaged ballclub, floundering toward the abyss with a 30-42 record. The team had a payroll of over 200 million and a turnaround seemed impossible or at least improbable. The team that was chosen by many pundits to represent the National League in the World Series was in danger of playing out the string for the entire second half...

Pitching, Puig key in Dodgers' sweep of Padres

LOS ANGELES It was Cuban Heritage Day at Dodger Stadium Sunday, so Los Angeles' favorite Cuban launched a missile deep into the seats of the left-center bleachers. In the sixth inning with the Dodgers and Padres tied at one, Puig teed off on Dale Thayer, crushing what proved to be the go-ahead solo home run over the wall. The blast helped the Dodgers secure a 2-1 win and a...

My petty post for the year

Disclaimer: If you don’t care or don’t want to read about stupid, childish men getting catty over the Internetz — you know, like a normal human being wouldn’t care — then click out of this article. Seriously. It’s really dumb. —– So yesterday, I wrote a Michael Young post basically saying that we shouldn’t expect much, I didn’t see the point in his signing, and...
