Found April 27, 2012 on Fox Sports San Diego:
The Padres acquired Mark Kotsay as a free agent last winter with hopes he would deliver leadership in the clubhouse and provide some much-needed help from the left side of the plate off the bench. Well, nothing helps boost the morale of a 5-14 team quite like a game-winning, two-run, pinch-hit double, which is what Kotsay delivered in the eighth inning Thursday night to help the Padres defeat Washington 2-1 to avoid being swept at Petco Park. The Padres were down 1-0 after Jayson Werth's seventh-inning homer off Edinson Volquez. Orlando Hudson drew a one-out walk in the eighth, and Cameron Maybin followed with a perfectly placed bunt single. Nationals reliever Tyler Clippard, who had rescued Nationals starter Edwin Jackson from a jam in the seventh, fell behind in the count to Kotsay with two straight balls. Kotsay swung through the next pitch. Then the 36-year-old outfielder, who lost in a 12-pitch battle with Clippard on Tuesday night, hit a one-hopper to the fence in right-center on Clippard's next pitch Maybin scoring from first on the heels of Hudson. "There's a mind-set, you want chances like that," Kotsay said. Thursday night's double raised his career average as a pinch-hitter to .315 (43-for-138), and it was his second pinch hit in as many games. Padres pinch hitters are batting .433 (13-for-30) this season.

Padres 2, Nationals 1

Pinch-hitter Mark Kotsay's two-run double off reliever Tyler Clippard in the eighth inning lifted the San Diego Padres to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday night. With the Padres trailing 1-0, Orlando Hudson drew a one-out walk and Cameron Maybin dropped down a bunt single against Clippard (1-2). Kotsay followed with a double to right-center to put San...

The fences at Pecto Park might get moved in

John Moores may be desperately looking to sell the San Diego Padres, but that doesn't mean he is going to sit around and be a lame duck owner until that happens. No, according to a report yesterday, the Padres are seriously considering moving the fences in at the cavernous Petco Park. This is not a new idea though. The Padres have toyed with the idea before, which is why the...

Padres Dodge Bullet As They Narrowly Avoid National Sweep.

The Padres failed to win yet another series, dropping their first two games of the series before in the winning the finale to the visiting Nationals. The Friars will hit the road again, heading up north to San Francisco to face the Giants, who lost their first two to Cincinnati before winning their last as well on Thursday. A change of scenery will be nice for the Padres but they...

Cole Hamels "Signed" a Lifetime Contract with the Padres

Cole Hamels is SUPPOSED to be one of the top free agents available at the end of this baseball season, but not if the San Diego Padres have anything to say about it. Upon Colbert Hamels' (Colbert!) birth, his mother, an employee of the Padres at the time, signed a LIFETIME contract for a robust $1 with the Padres then-head of marketing Andy Strasberg. Makes that $2M bonus Hamels...

Madfriars' Farm Report: April 27

Yasmani Grandal hit a homer in his first plate appearance in three weeks to help set the tone for Tucson. Juan Oramas continues to struggle, digging a hole so deep even Nate Freiman can't climb out. Matt Jackson was dealing in Elsinore, while the TinCaps didn't give John much to watch.

Daily Friar 4.28.12

The Padres have another winning streak going for them! For just the second time this season the Padres have a two game winning streak. They will try to make it three today, but they are going to have to do it against Tim Lincecum. This isn't the same Tim Lincecum that has won Cy Young awards. He has been having a down year so far. Either way it is still Tim Lincecum. So be sure...

Daily Friar 4.27.12

It's no secret that the Padres have been awful this season. They have yet to win a series, the best they've done is tie with the Phillies. I do have to give them credit though, they have done a decent job at winning at least one game to avoid a sweep. Of the 6 series that we've played so far, only 1 has been a sweep. The other have been 2-1 losses (minus the tie). The...

O'Malley Family Looking to Buy Padres

John Moores, who recently inherited control of the Friars following Jeff Moorad's failed bid to purchase the club, is evidently not wasting any time moving forward with a second attempt to transfer ownership. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported this morning that Peter O'Malley, the former owner of the L.A. Dodgers and who recently failed in his bid to buy back his old club...
