The petite shall inherit the earth.
Or at least the Dodgers, as it seems Aaron Miles and Jamey Carroll have the hottest bats this side of Matt Kemp. The two infielders, Milest listed at 5-8 and Carroll at 5-9, combined to go 8-for-9 with 4 RBI, two extra base hits and two runs scored in the Dodgers’ 11-7 victory over the Rockies.
Kemp himself had an RBI-double, and James Loney, Rod Barajas, and Tony Gwynn each scored twice. Los Angeles collected 18 hits in all.
It looked like the Boys in Blue would need every one of them. After Ted Lilly was pulled for a pinch hitter in the top of the sixth, five relievers entered the game. The main culprits for Colorado’s late revival were Scott Elbert, Matt Guerrier and Javy Guerra. The trio combined for six runs, nine hits, two walks and only one strike out over two innings. The Rockies brought the tying run to the plate with two out in the ninth, but Guerra retired Charlie Blackman on the first pitch of the at-bat to end the game.
Rubby De La Rosa hopes to improve on his five-inning performance as he takes the mound in Sunday’s matinee. Ubaldo Jimenez, whose only win came in a CGSO against Los Angeles on June 1, goes for the series win.
