The Los Angeles Dodgers have called a 1PM (PDT) press conference to announce the signing of All-Star outfielder Andre Ethier to a contract extension.  Ethier, batting .287 with 10 home runs and a National League leading 53 RBI, would have become a much sought after free agent this winter.

Fans will soon find out how much longer Andre Ethier will be swinging for the Dodgers.

Speculation about if and when the team would commit to Ethier has been running rampant ever since the winter when the team signed star outfielder Matt Kemp and Cy Young award winner Clayton Kershaw to multi-year deals. Ethier reported to spring training somewhat upset the Dodgers only gave him a one year, $10.95 million deal.

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti used the change of ownership as a reason for the delay in getting a longer term deal done. But many people believed Colletti was waiting to see if Ethier could come back healthy after undergoing knee surgery last September.

You have to applaud the timing of the announcement.  Los Angeles is on a “high” right now with the Kings winning the Stanley Cup Monday night and the Dodgers currently on top of the NL West.

More details to come.
