Well, that was fun while it lasted. Before falling to the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1 on Tuesday night the Los Angeles Dodgers managed to compile 15 consecutive road victories, which is the longest road win streak by a National League team since the Cincinnati Reds also won 15 straight in 1957. NL July player of the month Clayton Kershaw drops to 10-7 on the year (photo credit: Scott Rovak/USA TODAY Sports) Fresh off being named the July National League player of the month, Clayton Kershaw took to the mound as Dodger fans had high hopes of their team extending the streak to sweet 16. Kershaw wasn’t as sharp as he had been in his previous starts, managing to last only six innings, striking out five and surrendering two earned runs. Not horrible numbers by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly not up to Kershaw’s standards either. In allowing only two runs, Kershaw managed to contain Cardinal bats just enough, but as was the case earlier in the season, the Dodgers failed to provide him with any run support. Failing to come up with clutch hits, Dodger batters combined to ground into four double plays, stranding eight runners in the process. After being part of a bullpen that had been lights out, reliever Brandon League entered the game with one out in the eighth inning and allowed three runs on two hits, both of which were home runs, allowing the Cardinals to extend their lead to 5-1. The Dodgers will look to bounce back by sending Ricky Nolasco to the mound on Wednesday in the third game of the four game set with the Cardinals. Hanley Ramirez update Continuing to show signs of improvement, the Dodgers once again chose to not have Hanley Ramirez undergo an MRI on his sore right shoulder. Manager Don Mattingly called the situation “pretty much day to day.” If Ramirez does not suffer any setbacks, the Dodgers believe an MRI will be unnecessary and will implement his much needed bat back into the line up as soon as he is healthy.
