Matt Wallach has replaced Eliezer Alfonzo in major-league camp for Spring Training.
Alfonzo, one of the tens of Spring Training invitees operating on a minor-league deal, is suffering from dengue virus (yes, really). Eliezer will report to the minor-league portion of Camelback Ranch when he’s healthy enough to do so. Nobody knows when that will be, but he was a long-shot to make the roster anyway.
The Dodgers signed soon-to-be 32-year-old righty reliever Sean White to a minor-league deal.
White will serve as AAA depth, as the Dodgers have a stacked pen as it is.
Three Dodgers have withdrawn from the World Baseball Classic, as Chad covered earlier.
Paco Rodriguez, Alfredo Amezaga, and Peter Moylan, three Dodgers with shots at making the Opening Day roster, have withdrawn from the World Baseball Classic to focus on making the club.
The less Dodger participants the better as far as I’m concerned.

Hyun-Jin Ryu made his Dodgers' debut on Sunday at Camelback Ranch. He threw one inning, allowed one hit and struck out Gordon Beckham on a changeup low and away -- Ryu's signature pitch.
The hit he allowed was a triple to Dewayne Wise on a hanging curveball. Sandy Koufax worked with Ryu in a bullpen session a few days ago, but apparently Ryu hasn't yet mastered...
The Dodgers, as a club, have a ton of injuries or guys rehabbing, so I expect this feature to be busy all season. Two of the most important injury cases will start today, as we get timeline updates on Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford.
Manager Don Mattingly said March 1 is a very rough target date for Kemp to get into games coming off left shoulder surgery. Crawford will likely be later...
Andre Ethier is growing rather sick and tired of questions regarding his ability to hit left-handed pitchers and whether or not he’s going to be platooned, and he recently speculated that the difference between people nagging him about it or not is a “mere” five hits a year or so.
It was only one at-bat, and it was only spring training. But it was Andre Ethier’s first at...
The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing to begin their
exhibition season today, but outfielders Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford aren’t
expected to make their spring debuts until the beginning of March, according to
Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.
Manager Don Mattingly said March 1 is the “very rough target
date” for Kemp’s return, as he continues to recover from offseason...
I checked my mailbox a couple of days ago and found a most welcome surprise, with a return address of Elysian Park Avenue. Inside of the unassuming plain white envelope resided vouchers for two free tickets to a Dodgers' game in 2013!I had filled out a survey at the end of 2012 with the possibility of two free tickets coming my way. I actually had completely forgotten about them...
PHOENIX Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford won't be in the lineup Saturday when the Dodgers open their exhibition season against the Chicago White Sox.
And they won't be in the lineup Sunday, either.
Manager Don Mattingly said he doesn't expect the rehabilitating outfielders to play in Cactus League games until early next month.
Kemp is recovering from a major shoulder operation...
Being hit by a pitch is part of the game, but it doesn't always result in an injury. When being hit by a pitch does result in an injury, it can be devastating to a team and a player. Just ask Curtis Granderson. However, there is nothing more frightening than a pitch that rides up and in and hits a player in the head. That's what happened to Elian Herrera of the...
Ryu Hyun-Jin has lost about 15 pounds since he reported to his
first spring training with the Los Angeles Dodgers, a fact that
didn't go unnoticed by a reporter who used a common Korean phrase
to say the left-hander's face was half its previous size., http://juicedsportsblog.com/sports-news/news/dodgers-get-to-know-new-lefty-ryu
Via Gallagher's Facebook Page Manheim High School's Austin Gallagher was recently cut by the Los Angeles Dodgers organization after receiving a 50-game suspension for taking a banned substance. Today, the Phillies picked him up, according to the Lancaster Sunday News. To make room in camp, the Phillies released infielder Andres...
Often the last stop for a professional ball player on their road to the majors is with their Triple-A affiliate. Last year the likes of Luis Cruz, Ivan de Jesus, Elian Herrera, John Ely, Stephen Fife and many others all started the year with the Dodgers’ Triple-A ball club, the Albuquerque Isotopes.
While it is often the players that fans pay attention to the most, it is important...
Later today, voting will begin to determine Major League Baseball’s Face of the MLB.
It all started when MLB Network asked fans to choose who they felt was the face of their franchise. When each teams fans were finished speaking, the face of each franchise were put into brackets for a win-or-go-home heads-up vote against another teams representative, with the each league’s MVP...
Baseball needs to figure out a way to split up the money they bring in from MLBAM and have each team spend a portion of that profit on player salaries.
The words salary cap and baseball have been a striking issue in the past, but maybe those that control the game, that being the players and the owners, can work together, as a team between the owners and the union.
In 2013 MLB...
VIDEO & FEATURE: Dallas McPherson returns to Los Angeles -- the same town where his once-promising career was derailed -- but with a different team, and a different outlook on his career and the game.
Cuban defector Yasiel Puig and South Korean transplant Hyun-Jin Ryu have quickly become part of the Dodger fabric during their first big league camp.
PHOENIX The Dodgers have talked to Manager Don Mattingly about a new contract, the team's chairman said Saturday.
"We've talked to Don a lot about what he does and doesn't want right now," Mark Walter said. "I think you might see something come up before the end of the year."
Walter didn't offer any details. Mattingly didn't either. However...
