Fox Sports West:
Former major league pitcher Dave Stewart said he was preparing to watch the Heisman Trophy presentation on television Saturday when he learned Ryan Braun reportedly had tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
"I was like, 'Oh my God,'" Stewart said.
Stewart is the agent for Matt Kemp, who finished second to Braun in balloting for the National League's most valuable player award. Kemp was a triple-crown contender and finished a home run short of becoming the fifth player in major league history to hit 40 homers and steal 40 bases in the same season.
"If this thing turns out to be true and it turns out to be a fact that there were performance-enhancing substances in Ryan Braun, we're going to be disappointed," Stewart said. "But let me be very, very clear: we're disappointed finishing second in the first place.
"My thoughts were that Matt should have won to begin with."
Braun is disputing the charges through arbitration, according to ESPN, which first reported the positive test.
"It's B.S.," Braun said to USA TODAY of the test result.
Stewart said he hopes Braun is right.
"From what I understand, this is a quality kid," Stewart said. "You don't wish anything bad on good people."
Stewart said if the test result is upheld, it could be damaging to baseball.
"I think it was not long ago that the commissioner made a statement that the sport is clean," he said. "Once again, it takes you a step back."

Ned Colletti, Value, Prospects, and A Complete Disconnect
Value is a funny thing. We debate it when it comes to major awards like Most Valuable Player, and often infer it from team accomplishments when trying to assess the contributions of an individual. The one thing I believe we can all agree on, however, when it comes to value, is that Ned Colletti has no conception of it.None whatsoever. The man has proven that to be true time and time...
Rubby Injury Forces Dodgers To Spend Riches
In free agency, the Los Angeles Dodgers struck quickly signing a pair of classic 4-5 starters to stabilize the back of their big league rotation in veterans Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang. When healthy, Capuano has proven to be a solid starter over his career providing relatively strong peripherals and should prove a discount over the life of the contract if he logs even 300 innings...

Dodgers have interest in Daniel Murphy, plus arbitration news
The Dodgers are apparently enamored with the Mets' Daniel Murphy, as the club tried to acquire him during the Winter Meetings, reported by Ken Gurnick of Dodgers.com.Gurnick also wrote the Dodgers still might make a run at him.Murphy, 26, put up a nice triple slash line last season -- .320/.362/.448 -- before suffering a season-ending left MCL tear in August. Murphy's short...
Los Angeles Dodgers Take Nobody In 2011 Rule 5 Draft, Lose Tom Melgarejo
The 2011 Rule 5 Draft was held on Thursday, and the Los Angeles Dodgers were unsurprisingly inactive in its proceedings, abstaining from taking a single player in the MLB, AAA, and AA phases.
The Dodgers did lose a player though, as the Kansas City Royals selected left-handed pitcher Tom Melgarejo.
Melgarejo wasn’t a significant blow by any means, as he wasn’t even really...
Kemp's rep: 'Disappointed' by Braun news
Dave Stewart, agent for NL MVP runner-up Matt Kemp, says that if
Ryan Braun's positive PED test turns out to be true, "We're going
to be disappointed."
Lilly questions NL MVP choice, voting process
Ted Lilly knows the NL MVP won't be revoked and transferred to Matt Kemp, regardless of how Ryan Braun's controversy plays out. But Lilly has just as big of a problem with the composition of the voting pool.
The Los Angeles Dodgers sign Wil Ledezma
The Dodgers have signed 30-year old lefty reliever/starter Wil Ledezma to a minor league deal. Ledezma pitched in 5 games (0 starts) for the Blue Jays last year and he was 0-0 with a 15.00 ERA and a 3.00 WHIP. He has now pitched in 192 games (40 starts) in his first 9 years in the majors and he is 15-25 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. Ledezma has always had a big time left arm...
Around The Web: Loney’s Mess & Murphy Interest + TV Rights & Matsui Rumor
Credit: The LFP
Los Angeles Times: I covered the adventures of James Loney before, but according to the California Highway Patrol, his night was even more ridiculous than TMZ reported.
Loney sideswiped three cars on the 101 Freeway in Sherman Oaks, stopped in the fast lane, passed out, then awakened and tried to flee the scene, only to crash again, said Leland Tang, a spokesman...
Looking Ahead to 2012
I have programmed up my simulator with the 2012 schedule and all of the updated trades and free agent signings (well at least the most significant ones). Still a little house keeping to do on updating my park factors and defensive ratings. Here is a preliminary look at how the simulator likes the 2012 Dodgers, including how it thinks the Dodgers will do on a month by month basis...
Dodgers interested in acquiring Daniel Murphy
According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the Dodgers nearly traded for Daniel Murphy during the Winter Meetings this past week, and could still be interested in acquiring him.
According to Gurnick, Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said he nearly traded for a position player during the meetings, but the “other club” satisfied their need elsewhere, and Gurnick says that position player...
Braun Over Brain’s — MVP?
I’m going to jump to conclusions. I don’t need to wait for all the evidence to come out. Ryan Braun used performance enhancing drugs. Guilty until proven truly guilty. Right? If it is indeed the case that Ryan Braun will be suspended 50 games for steroid use, a little black rain cloud is once again hovering over Major League Baseball. They will have big decision to make. Should...
