The Mets declined to offer contracts to outfielder Andres Torres, right-hander Mike Pelfrey and right-handed reliever Manny Acosta on Friday.
The three players will become free agents on Saturday.
The switch-hitting Torres hit .239 with 15 homers and 57 RBIs this season for New York.
Pelfrey, who has spent parts of seven seasons with New York, appeared in only three games this year before having season-ending Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow. He has a career ERA of 4.36 with slightly more than 500 strikeouts in about 900 innings.
Acosta struck out 46 in 47 1-3 innings last season while walking 25 in 45 appearances.

According to multiple reports, the New York Mets have officially non-tendered centerfielder Andres Torres, reliever Manny Acosta, and right-handed starter Mike Pelfrey. Though the Mets can still sign Pelfrey at a lower rate — arbitration-eligible players who are tendered contracts must receive at least 80 % of their previous year’s salaries, Mike made $5.6M in 2012 — the former...
At seasons end Dickey called he and Wright a “package deal.”
Now that the Mets have locked up David Wright to an extension, they will probably shift their attention to the 2012 Cy Young award winner, RA Dickey. Could it be the reason why David Wright agreed to sign on the dotted line was because he and Dickey are truly a package deal, and now the Mets are going to lock up Dickey...
If the Mets' negotiations with David Wright were a test of ownership's willingness to spend, not even the most cynical can deny that the team just passed in a big way.
Time to give credit where credit is due.
I was among those who questioned when the Mets, under Fred Wilpon, would emerge from their post-Madoff funk and resume operating like a high-revenue franchise.
Last winter, New York Mets starter Jon Niese underwent surgery to correct his deviated septum, in hopes his breathing easier would help improve his game stamina. This winter the doctors will be tuning up his heart.
Niese was forced to leave two starts early during the 2012 campaign, suffering in each instance from a rapid heartbeat. Diagnosed as an arrhythmia, the lefty from...
Mets 3rd baseman David Wright has become the richest man in Mets franchise history.
He has agreed to a new 8 year contract worth 138 million dollars keeping in a Mets uniform through 2020.
David Wright will now be playing for the Mets for the rest of his major league baseball career.
This was the right move by the Mets management of keeping David Wright for years to come.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Mets have fielded six or seven calls from teams that would like to meet at the Winter Meetings and discuss trading for R.A. Dickey. Heyman also says that Sandy Alderson has been given clearance to pursue trading Dickey.
The Mets and Dickey have been trying to work out a contract extension for two months...
Hello Mets faithful and Happy December! It will certainly be Happy Holidays for all of us because…he’s ours! At long last, after all the rumors, false reports, speculating, praying, hoping, rain dancing, etc., David Wright is now a Met for life (barring any future trades). We finally have our generation’s version of Ed Kranepool…someone we can rally around and cheer...
That sound that you just heard was the sound of Mets fan everywhere breathing a sigh of relief.
After losing Jose Reyes to free agency last winter and the team’s lack of funds, the signing of David Wright to a 7 year, 122 million dollar extension is viewed as a signal that the team is committed to putting a better team on the fielded in 2013 and beyond.
Having Wright go in to...
On Monday all 30 GMs, along with a handful of players, agents, and other baseball folks, will all come together in R.A. Dickey’s hometown of Nashville, TN for the Winter Meetings. Personally, this is one of my favorite weeks in all of baseball. This is when the Hot Stove really gets cooking, so all you crabby Mets fans who keep complaining the front office isn’t doing anything...
With David Wright signed for the next eight years, the New York Mets next order of action is to figure out what they are going to do with reigning NL Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey. While negotiations have reportedly been slow, Buster Olney of ESPN recently reported that the team has increased it’s offer to the 38-year-old knuckleballer:
The Mets increased their offer to R...
Is David Wright on his way out of town or is he walking into a huge contract extension?
Here are a few talking points as this Thursday morning rolls around.
So, by now, you have heard that the Braves have inked BJ Upton to a five year deal worth approximately $75.25 MM, with the .25 million obviously being the deal breaker for BJ. It got me thinking about contracts for a number...
