Since 2004, David Wright has been a fan favorite.  His name can be found all over the Mets’ all-time offensive leaderboard and he has accomplished this all before his 29th birthday.  Because of this, some Mets fans would find it impossible to see the team without David Wright and would consider it sacrilege to trade him. However, I’ve been doing some research on the Mets’ career leaderboard and made some comparisons to another team’s leaderboard.  Fans who bring up the fact that David Wright holds or is close to holding many of the club’s all-time offensive records might change their minds on their favorite player once they read this. The Mets came into existence in 1962, joining the National League with the Houston Colt .45s (who became the Astros in 1965).  Therefore, it would be fair to assume that both teams would have similar cumulative offensive statistics since they have both completed 50 seasons of play.  It would also be fair to assume that sin...

A Few Things The Mets Won’t Be Thankful For Next Thanksgiving

After asking one of my buddies at work, a long suffering Mets fan like myself, to read my post about Cespedes this morning, he remarked afterward, “well there’s a player Mets fans won’t be thankful for next Thanksgiving.” What a freaking genius – and from a 20-year Jarhead no less. So let me get a one year head start and give you a few things the Mets...

The Mets starting rotation moving forward

The New York Mets pitching rotation struggled last season, while the Mets offense managed to produce the sixth most runs in the National League. Sandy Alderson has definitely seen the stats, and knows he needs to address the starting rotation this offseason. But what can Sandy Alderson do to improve the rotation for this upcoming season? Johan Santana looks like he will be ready...

With Thanksgiving Out of the Way, What Will The Mets Do?

Its great to be back at MMO. Did you guys miss me? Now that we have had our yearly helping of turkey, stuffing, cranberries, a glass of wine, and shopping mall fights for a $2 waffle maker on Black Friday, its time to find out whats going to happen in the ever so unpleasant world of the New York Mets.  Yes, I used the word unpleasant. In less than one week, the MLB Winter Meetings...

ESPN: Three Fixes For The Mets

David Schoenfield of ESPN SweetSpot considers Three Fixes for Each NL East Team. Here are the Mets: 1. Shortstop: If not Reyes, who?  Likely solution: Sign Reyes, or give the job to Ruben Tejada. He’s never going to hit with any power, but he posted a .360 OBP last season at age 21 (in 376 plate appearances). How rare is that? Since 1980, only three other middle infielders had...

The Mets and beer commercials

I’m quite certain that the first time I ever heard about beer was during a commercial for a Mets game. Now it boggles my mind how many beer commercials I must have watched in my lifetime. I’m sort of curious – have I drunk more beer or watched more beer commercials? I’m probably better off not knowing that particular score. When I think of beer and the Mets, the first...

Reviewing my 33-year-old grudge against Richie Hebner

It’s natural for fans to have favorite players and it follows that there will be athletes that do not invoke feelings of sympathy. I like to think that in the last decade or so that the people on the Mets that I detested all earned those feelings from me by their performances on the field. There was Rey Ordonez and his inability to hit. There was Guillermo Mota and the gas...

Capps has not heard from the Mets since GM Meetings

According to the New York Post, “Paul Kinzer, the agent for reliever Matt Capps, says he hasn’t heard from Mets since the GM meetings,’ during which the Mets had told him they had a ‘possible interest’ in his client. Matthew Cerrone: To me, Capps is a middle reliever. He can be better than what he showed last year. But, even still, he shouldn’...

Mets not in on Broxton

Reports indicate that Jonathan Broxton will select his next team within the week, but despite needing a closer the Mets aren't believed to be involved. The Mets never appeared interested in Broxton and probably his injury history is why. I'm glad the Mets are passing on him, Broxton seems to be an injury waiting to happen...

Broxton’s agent doesn’t think he’ll sign with Mets

In a post to Twitter, Mark Hale of the New York Post says BB Abbott, the agent for RHP Jonathan Broxton, doesn’t think his client will be signing with the Mets. Last week, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN said Broxton, who missed most of the 2011 season with a bruised elbow was to begin throwing soon, and is expected to seek a one-year deal to rebuild his value and enter free agency...
