As a side-effect of Matt Stairs’ activation bumping Aaron Cunningham to Triple-A, utility player Mitch Canham has been demoted from AAA Portland to AA San Antonio.
Canham, a former catcher who’s played all over the field this year, hit just .212/.298/.303 in San Antonio earlier this year, but managed a .320/.370/.400 line with Portland (albeit in just nine games).
At age 25, he likely doesn’t carry much value now that he’s been moved out from behind the plate, where he was once considered a decent prospect. Canham will need to translate his brief Triple-A success into some life in Double-A to have a shot at a big league career.
