The Victory Formation:
San Diego Padres
Boston Red Sox
After somehow hanging around until the final weekend in 2010, the Padres fell back to reality in 2011. Then GM Jed Hoyer knew 2010 was an aberration, so he sent his best player, Adrian Gonzalez, to Boston last winter kicking off the rebuilding process (yet again). No one, outside of a few crazed Padres fans, expected much from the friars last year. And to some degree, those expectations were met. In the first year of overhauling the farm system and rebuilding from the ground up, the Padres finished last in the NL West, mustering 71 wins in the process.
Jed Hoyer jumped ship, taking the GM job for the Cubs early this offseason. The Padres replaced him with Josh Byrnes, the former Diamonbacks GM. Byrnes dove in head first, quickly adding potential impact players to the farm system just as Hoyer had done. The Padres traded their best young pitcher, Mat Latos, to the Reds. Latos has demonstrated that he can be a front end starter in his young career. In two seasons with the Padres, he ...

The Padres marketing department announced that they will have three separate retro nights for the 2012 season, honoring the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s, respectively. But the genius of it is that the uniforms they will wear on each of these nights will be decided interactively with a vote by us, the fans. We will get to choose one uniform from three selections in each decade...
Prospect Q&A: Yasmani Grandal
Mark Kotsay didn't need any time away from the game this past offseason to decide if he would play again in 2012.
It's February 29th. So lucky for you all you get one extra Daily Friar this year. I hope that you are all enjoying it from day to day, and keep coming back to see what is going on at other people's blogs. Right now I know it's a little monotonous with the same people posting all the time. But once we start playing real ball then we will have a lot more to talk about...
For the first time since July 4, Padres pitcher Clayton Richard faced hitters Tuesday -- and though it was only an eight-minute session, it marked another milestone in his recovery from shoulder surgery last season.
There is a beauty in what I do here, but there is also a curse. Right now especially. Allow me to explain what I mean by that. Bloggers and local papers are contantly writing about what is going on spring training. This is nice because I know every morning I can go to those sites and grab whatever they have posted for the day. However, a Google search for the Padres doesn't garner...
Andrew Cashner sounded a little empathetic on Monday afternoon when he was asked about facing actual hitters for the first time in camp.
An astute display of attacking football by Erik Hamren's men in Zagreb saw the Blue-Yellow pick up a deserved victory over their fellow Euro 2012 finalists.
I have been looking forward to March for a while now. There is a lot going on that get's me excited to turn the page on my calendar. However, this year we are granted one more day of February. Today was supposed to be the last day of the month. Oh well. What does have me a little worried for March though is that Fox Sports San Diego is supposed to launch next Monday and we still...

Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and Eastern Bank renewed their endorsement agreement for the 2012 season. The deal will continue last year's inclusion of a charitable partnership, personal appearances and promotions, and will leverage Eastern Bank's partnership with NESN. It will include TV, in-branch and online advertisements, social media promotions and more. "...
