Legendary slugger and possible juicer Mark McGwire moved on from his hitting coach duties with the St. Louis Cardinals in November to fill the same position on the coaching staff of the Los Angeles Dodgers. And when you head West out to La La Land and its hippy dippy environs, even typically mundane events such as an autograph signing session can get weird in a hurry. On Monday, we regaled you with the tale of how Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford signed a woman’s pregnant belly. Now we have Mark McGwire gladly signing some dude’s prosthetic leg during Dodgers FanFest 2013. McGwire does not appear put off nor does he seem he creeped out by the unique autograph request. In fact, he appears more than happy to accomodate the prosthetic leg, handing it back to the gentlemen like it was no biggie, as if it likely was not just attached to the guy’s half-leg mere moments earlier. That’s Mark McGwire for ya. Unflappable. Whether at the plate, shooting up steroids (allegedly) or signing some guy’s prosthetic leg, this guy remains in the moment, focuses and stays the course. But more about that prosthetic leg. Pretty fancy, and rocking a New Balance sneaker to boot. But how did the guy end up with it? What horrible tragedy befell this man that resulted in him losing part of his leg? Do you want to know the terrifying truth, or do you want to see Mark McGwire sock a few dingers? Thought so. Some pretty surprising news coming out of Chicago on Wednesday evening. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are planning to start Jimmy Clausen at quarterback against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.  This means that the ultra enigmatic Jay Cutler will be warming the bench after struggling throughout the vast majority of the 2014 campaign. On Tuesday evening, the Padres and Rays put baseball insiders, analysts and fans on high alert with rumblings of a trade involving Tampa Bay outfielder Wil Myers going to San Diego. 49ers release Ray McDonald

That didn’t take too long. Just hours after it was reported that Ray McDonald was being investigated for sexual assault, the San Francisco 49ers have released the veteran defensive tackle.  San Francisco stood behind McDonald during his domestic abuse case earlier this year, indicating that it wanted the legal process to play out. McDonald was never charged in that case. But...

Take your pick: Colin Kaepernick or Derek Carr

Colin Kaepernick and Derek Carr are similar in many ways. Both are second-round picks, play in the Bay Area, are young quarterbacks and have pronounced strengths and weaknesses. Carr is a rookie with the Oakland Raiders and has started all season, unseating veteran Matt Schaub in the preseason. The former Fresno State star has provided Oakland fans with hope that he’s the franchise...

Reports: Michigan makes huge offer to Harbaugh

Michigan still does not have a football coach, and it still appears as though the San Francisco 49ers are going to part ways with Jim Harbaugh after the season. Heat lose a key player with McRoberts out for rest of season

On Monday, news broke that Josh McRoberts—the Miami Heat’s second-biggest summer acquisition—tore his meniscus and was feared to miss the rest of the season. McRoberts, signed for four years and $23 million after a career year in Charlotte with the then-Bobcats, struggled to get into the lineup early this season due to nagging foot, back and toe injuries and only played 17...

Rex Ryan, Bill Belichick can see right through you. The New York Jets head coach said Monday that Belichick is a “first-ballot Hall Of Fame coach” when he retires. Red Sox appear content with rotation despite lack of true ace

The Boston Red Sox’s rotation could be looked at in one of two ways: They either don’t have a No. 1 starter or they have five pitchers capable of being No. 1 starters.     Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington and manager John Farrell are subscribing to the latter theory. While no one is going to mistake Clay Buchholz, Joe Kelly, Rick Porcello, Wade Miley or Justin Masterson...
