Legendary slugger and possible juicer Mark McGwire moved on from his hitting coach duties with the St. Louis Cardinals in November to fill the same position on the coaching staff of the Los Angeles Dodgers. And when you head West out to La La Land and its hippy dippy environs, even typically mundane events such as an autograph signing session can get weird in a hurry.

On Monday, we regaled you with the tale of how Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford signed a woman’s pregnant belly. Now we have Mark McGwire gladly signing some dude’s prosthetic leg during Dodgers FanFest 2013.

McGwire does not appear put off nor does he seem he creeped out by the unique autograph request. In fact, he appears more than happy to accomodate the prosthetic leg, handing it back to the gentlemen like it was no biggie, as if it likely was not just attached to the guy’s half-leg mere moments earlier.

But more about that prosthetic leg. Pretty fancy, and rocking a New Balance sneaker to boot. But how did the guy end up with it? What horrible tragedy befell this man that resulted in him losing part of his leg? Do you want to know the terrifying truth, or do you want to see Mark McGwire sock a few dingers? Thought so.

Dodgers sign Dominican SS Carlos Aquino, continue international signing spree

The Dodgers' international signing barrage continued over the weekend, as they signed Dominican shortstop Carlos Aquino to a $75,000 deal. His age is unknown, but it's probably safe to assume he's a teenager. From the Dominican Prospect League website: Aquino was eligible in 2012 but lacked the strength and ability he is presently showing. He has smooth fielding...

MLB has “major concerns” with the Dodgers TV deal + issues with local TV & other carriers

The Dodgers have not had their TV deal with Time Warner Cable cleared by the MLB yet, as said yesterday, and indications that it’ll be allowed to stand as is are bleak, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Arsenal Analysis: Dodgers Best Pitches Of 2012 – Starters

As fans of the Dodgers, we’re always analyzing which pitchers have the best and worst pitches, but we normally base that on nothing but our own feelings at the moment, so I decided to take a more objective look at things. For a pitch to qualify for these rankings, I used a 200-pitch minimum for starters and a 50-pitch minimum for relievers. The metric used to measure pitch effectiveness...

Dodgers rumored suitors for Bourn and Rolen

The Dodgers may not be done shopping yet folks. Rumors are starting to surface that the Dodgers have interest in Michael Bourn and Scott Rolen. Jon Heyman writes that at least one prominent Dodgers player contacted Bourn encouraging him to sign in Los Angeles. That move seems a bit puzzling no doubt. The Dodgers have plenty of logjams on their roster, adding Bourn to the mix would...

Podcast: 'Dugout Blues' episode 21 - Dodgers, RSN, signings, prospects

On this episode of "Dugout Blues," Jared Massey (L.A. Dugout) and I discuss -- once again -- the television and regional sports network deal the Dodgers have agreed to with Time Warner Cable. The deal is reportedly for $7 billion over 25 years. Or, if you believe what I said in the podcast (twice), $25 billion for seven years. This seems like a repeat, but the Dodgers...

"The Dodgers and Los Angeles After 50 Years: The Economics of How a Sports Icon and a City Grew Together" -- A Recap From UCLA.

I attended a sports and economics event centered around the Dodgers and Los Angeles back in November. The event was held at my Alma mater of UCLA and included such speakers as Peter Guber, Ron Cey, Gary Beban, and Dodgers' Team Historian Mark Langill. Apparently UCLA is going to begin offering a Sports Business Program to its students. I may very well find myself back at UCLA...

Why you should care about the Dodgers' TV network

A couple of months ago, word leaked out that the Dodgers were close to a TV deal with FOX that would bring the Dodgers somewhere in the neighborhood of $6-7 billion over 25 years, bringing them something along the lines of a quarter billion dollars a year. Today, Bill Shaikin of the LA Times is reporting that that deal will not come to fruition, and instead that the Dodgers...
