Sports fans like to complain about their favorite sports and especially their favorite teams; its part of being a fan. It is our sport and our team--complaining is our right! When baseball fans complain that it isn't right how a team can 'buy' a World Series title if it wants to (and some have) they should complain.
How competitive is it when one team spends a bundle of money on all the best players in the league? It isn't, but that is also why there are likely some that find the current predicament of the New York Yankees a great example of poetic justice.
For years the New York Yankees have been spending a fortune to make sure that many of the best players in baseball are wearing pinstripes. More often than not it has worked. In the mid to late 90's you could count on the Bronx Bombers being in the World Series. Heck, they won four out of five from 1996-2000.
Sounds like money well spent back then, right?
Since the formula has worked--and it must be profitable--they keep doing. Its only resulted in one World Series title since than (2009), but that hasn't stopped them from spending.
Well, those free spending ways appear to have finally caught up with them. Yahoo! Sports writer Jeff Passan pointed out on Twitter Sunday that with Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, and Kevin Youkilis all on the DL the Yankees have over $96 million in salary injured.
Over half the team's in baseball don't spend that much on their whole team. To add insult to injury, the team is probably only going to get Curtis Granderson back. Youkilis and Teixeira are out for the season. It would be surprising to see Jeter or A-rod return either at this point.
Yeah, it may have worked once, but all that money is not going to buy the Yankees a championship this season.

After starting the second-half with a 5-2 loss to the Red Sox in the opener of their three-game, weekend series on Friday night, the New York Yankees ended their three-game skid with a 4-2 win in Boston on Saturday afternoon. Now 52-45 and in fourth place, six-games out of first, the Yankees continue to somehow keep pace with the pack and stay
Maybe this is just who CC Sabathia is now. A pitcher with a low 90s fastball, good for quality starts (6 IP, 3 ERs) with a smattering of gems and stinkers thrown in. After another off game, this time giving up 7 ER, it's beginning to look like that's the case. Sabathia's ERA is above 4.00 and steadily rising, and his fastball average is barely above 90 mph and he has...

New York Yankees 5 — Boston Red Sox 2
Hiroki Kuroda evens the series with the Red Sox in today’s 5-2 win.
The Yankees would have Brett Gardner reach on an (ill-advised) slide into first for a single. When Ichiro Suzuki lined out to...
As soon as the second half of the season began, the New York Yankees placed Derek Jeter on the DL retroactive to him pulling his quad. Fortunately, the injury does not seem terribly severe. In fact, Jeter believes he is ready to return to the lineup - possibly as early as Saturday.
Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York says Jeter feels no pain. In fact, Jeter said he feels nothing...
New York Yankees catcher Chris Stewart made a defensive play today that will probably go down as one of the best of the season. Stewart went behind homeplate for a routine pop fly, the ball kept carrying so Stewart had to reach into the stands and actually fell into them. That wasn’t the impressive part though Daniel Nava of the Boston Red Sox tried to tag up from first, a smart...
Alex Rodriguez has reported back to the New York Yankees' minor league complex, three days after he was diagnosed with a strained left quadriceps on the final day of his injury rehabilitation assignment.
Rodriguez, under investigation by Major League Baseball for his reported ties to a clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs, did not speak with reporters...

New York Yankees 7 — Boston Red Sox 8 (11 innings)
Mike Napoli’s second home run of the night is a walk-off in tonight’s 8-7 loss to the Boston Red Sox in 11 innings.
Early in the game, the Yankees looked to catch the Red Sox slacking defensively....
CC Sabathia (9-8, 4.07 ERA) is in charge of the rubber match against the Sox tonight as he goes up against Ryan Dempster (5-8, 4.24 ERA). Sabathia is trying to rebound from what he called a “terrible” first half. He’s trying to fix an arm slot issue from his last start. He’s 1-1 against Boston this year, including beating them with 7 1/3 innings of one run ball back on May...
We already know about amazing standing ovation Mariano Rivera got at Citi Field during the All-Star Game. Then came the surprising standing-O the soon-to-be-retired closer received at Fenway Park but nothing could have prepared Rivera for what was on the menu when he arrived at a Boston steakhouse just hours after shutting down the Red Sox at Fenway Saturday night.
The Yankees already have a roster of overpriced, aging former superstars. So what’s one more?
According to multiple reports, the Yankees are talking with the Chicago Cubs about a trade that would send Alfonso Soriano back to New York where he started his career.
According to the New York Post, the Yankees are actually “close” to acquiring the outfielder from Chicago. It’s...

Brewers superstar Ryan Braun was the first victim of Major League Baseball’s investigation into the Biogenesis of America clinic, as the league suspended him on Friday for the remainder of the season without pay.
Now the focus has shifted to Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
The evidence against the 14-time All-Star is ”far beyond” what the...
Turnabout, as they say, is fair play.
It’s cold comfort, but it was certainly the case on Saturday at Fenway Park as the New York Yankees followed up their Friday night loss to the Sox by recording a 5-2 victory in the second game of the three-game stand.
With the Tampa Bay Rays edging Toronto 4-3 earlier in the day, Boston's lead...
