Theory of Relativity.  Skinny jeans on guys.  Nicholas Cage getting paid to do movies. Here’s another thing that makes no sense: fire Charlie Manuel. The Phillies' number 3 and 4 hitters were injured for the first three months, Roy Halladay joined the DL for over a month, they have a minor league bullpen, and you want to blame…Charlie Manuel? The manager needs some scrutiny on a team that is eleven games under .500, but one clunker season for a team decimated by injuries following seven straight winning seasons and five straight division titles is not the time to fire the manager. Even if Charlie Manuel has been a bad manager this season (which I don’t feel he has), the manager is far down the list of 2012 problems.  Now that you mention it, here is a list of eleven areas (in no particular order) to place blame before blaming the manager. Reasons for Phillies terrible 2012 season 1. Ryan Howard's injury 2. Chase Utley's injury 3. Roy Halladay's in...

Phillies Nation Interview: Catcher Tommy Joseph

Acquired in last week’s trade that sent Hunter Pence to San Francisco, catcher Tommy Joseph is now among Philadelphia’s top positional prospects. An All-Star in the Double-A Eastern League, the righty hitting Joseph has posted a .262 batting average with 8 HR and 39 RBI in 87 games this season. Joseph, who stands 6’1″ tall and weighs around 215 pounds, was the Giants’...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: FA arms to pursue for relief

Before Jonathan Papelbon in the ‘pen, what reliable gun do the Philadelphia Phillies have?  What free agents would you select from the list below? TAL’S HANDY CAPS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I will publish after every battle that is not washed out.  I will have many summer-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats. If you were directed here...

Hamels Wills Phillies To Victory Over Braves

Cole Hamels decided the Phillies weren't going to lose tonight. (AP) There was a baseball game in Philadelphia tonight, but it was in name only. For, you see, it was less a game than a one-man pitching showcase, headlined by Cole Hamels and his nine shutout innings. His performance willed the Phillies to a victory over the Braves, 3-0, in a game where the runs scored will become...

His Phillies Return is Only Eight Games, but Domonic Brown is Impressive

Domonic Brown was the untouchable.  The Phillies would not trade him.  Not for Cliff Lee.  Not for Roy Halladay.  He debuted to a standing ovation in 2010 as the Phillies entered an offensive funk down the stretch.  But soon the magic died. Brown hit just .210 in his late season call-up in 2010, and Spring Training 2011 before there ever was a Hunter Pence Brown broke his...

Phillies Pitching Frustrating Once Again

The Phillies lost in spectacularly bad fashion by a score of 12-6 against the Braves last night, losing the 3 game series. Kyle Kendrick went only 3 1/3 innings while giving up 6 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. Kendrick looked like he was sleepwalking through the game. He was awful. The only thing worse than Kyle Kendrick’s pitching was his post-game interview. Nearly all of Kendrick’s...

The 2013 Phillies Roster

Happier Times- Game 3 of the 2008 World Series, the game I waited 15 years to see. The 2012 Phillies are a disaster. There's no getting around that. At 49-60, 13.5 games out of the playoffs, they are playing out the schedule. The only point of these games is to find out who should be a part of the 2013 version of the Phillies. These games matter to Dom Brown. They...

Hamels Ends Losing Streak Against Braves

It appears that Cole Hamels has found his groove again, and just in time to end a long Phillies losing streak against the division rival Braves. Prior to Tuesday night, the Braves had won 7 straight against the struggling Phils. But once Hamels snapped out of his pitching slump, he made easy work out of Atlanta’s line-up. He pitched a 5-hit, complete game shut-out with 6 strike...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2012 ERA for the NL East at game 111

Kyle Kendrick of the Philadelphia Phillies is the 5-slot starter.  How does the five for Washington match up with the locals?  The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my recent coverage linked below. TAL’S HANDY STATS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the number...

All Good Things Must End – Phillies Sellout Streak Broken

You could see it coming for months. Even in games that were announced as sellouts, the number of empty blue seats seemed to grow nightly. The tickets may have been paid for, but a number of them sat unsold on the secondary market on sites like Stubhub. After 3 years and 257 straight sellouts, the Phillies streak went the way of their playoff hopes. The Phillies...

FP Santangelo - Ignorant Juicer

FP Santangelo is apparently the Andy Martino of baseball broadcasting.FP, the Gnats 'color man' on MASN had this exchange with lead announcer Bob Carpenter.FP - [The Phillies] sellout streak ended tonight, apparently. 257 games.Bob - That's a great run.FP - They're gonna have to take back their own ballpark.Bob - Now that is funny.[pause] We took our's back.Zing...

Cole Hamels Gets The Nod In An Effort To Even Series With Braves

Last night was just another example of the 2012 Phillies. Poor play, no drive to play for win and the inability to hit with runners in scoring position. Vance Worley allowed four earned runs on six hits through 3 2/3 innings, but left early with what was later diagnosed by Charlie Manuel as "stomach issues". The Phils lost pretty heavily to their NL East rivals last night...

Braves Dismantle Phils Pitching, Win 12-6.

Final: Phillies 6, Braves 12. WP: Chad Durbin (4-1, 3.07 ERA) LP: Antonio Bastardo (2-4, 5.45 ERA) Tonight's game featured a series of highs-and-lows for the Philadelphia Phillies. The bottom of the 1st was positive in the fact that Jimmy Rollins picked up his 40th career leadoff home run, in which he homered off of opposing starter Tim Hudson to the first row in right field...
