Brandon Moss is the new flavor of the month for the Oakland A's, who have been seeking a first baseman who could stick around. Moss put on quite a show Tuesday at Coors Field, hitting two homers, one that reached the third deck, the 32nd ball to go that far in the history of the ballpark, which opened in 1995. "We knew he had that kind of power," manager Bob Melvin said. "It was whether or not he could put it together at the major league level." Moss has four hits, including three homers, and a .235 average since being called up from Class AAA Sacramento a week ago. As he said, "I don't get a lot of singles. I try to drive the ball." At first base for Oakland this year, Moss follows Brandon Allen, who was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay; Kila Ka'aihue, who was designated for assignment; and Daric Barton, who was optioned to Sacramento. Moss previously played for the Red Sox, Pirates and Phillies, and he signed a minor league deal wi...

Fantasy Baseball: Week 11 waiver wire pickups

Ryan Cook-RP-Athletics- Brian Fuentes who has been closing for Oakland this season has begun a massive implosion and, according to Manager Bob Melvin, the team will operate with a ‘closer by committee’ going forward. Fuentes has just blown his third save of the season and over his last four has un-closer-like numbers (5.24 ERA, 1.25 WHIP). If [...]

Mark Mulder: There was no talk of ‘Moneyball’ when I was in Oakland

Contrary to the portrayal in the movie “Moneyball,” one former A’s player says he wasn’t aware of the revolutionary movement taking place in the team’s front office at the time. “There was no talk of ‘Moneyball’ when I was there,” says ex-A’s pitcher Mark Mulder. “You never heard anything like that.” Mulder, a current ESPN broadcaster, made his comments while...

Oakland Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has left Wednesday night's game against Colorado because of a strained left hamstring. This is part of a multi-year trend, and...

Cespedes exits again with ailing hamstring

Wednesday was supposed to be Yoenis Cespedes' big day. It wasn't. He won't play Thursday, and manager Bob Melvin said an option...
