San Diego Padres second baseman Orlando Hudson was in good spirits Thursday after he was knocked unconscious while slamming into a wall against the Florida Marlins.
He was carted off the field on a stretcher and taken to a hospital for precautionary tests. Hudson, who was seen walking around the clubhouse following the Padres' 5-3 win on Thursday, is expected to be fine.
Hudson hurt himself while attempting to make a diving catch. He remained on the ground for several minute as trainers checked on him before loading him onto a stretcher and removing him from the field.
“It was a scary moment,” Padres manager Bud Black said. “When a guy goes unconscious, you’re worried. Any sort of collision with a wall or a teammate is just a sickening feeling in your stomach, and I think we all had that.”
The veteran infielder went 1-for-3 on the afternoon and is hitting .242 for the season with two home runs and 22 RBIs.
