We still have to wait for contract agreements/amounts with nine other Padres players that are arbitration eligible. Here is the lsit of players that we still are waiting on: Edinson Volquez Tim Stauffer* Dustin Moseley Clayton Richard Luke Gregerson Nick Hundley* Chase Headley* Carlos Quentin Will Venable Here is a quick summary of salary arbitration through wiki.answers that explains it pretty well: A player or a club is allowed to submit a dispute over a player's salary to binding arbitration after a certain number of years in service have been accumulated by the player (usually between three and six years). The player's statistics are used as the key arbitration tool. Statistics covering productivity, longevity, potential and comparable worth as compared to like...

Padres 2012 Projected Salaries Updated

I wanted to update the Padres salary projections for 2012.  The Padres have plenty of players arbitration eligible, for those players, I inserted the MLBTR projection.  It appears the Padres will settle in between 50-55M for the 2012 season. Update: Per Bill Center at the SDUT Thatcher, Baker, Hundley, Headley, and Stauffer have agreed to deals.  At this point we only know...

Padres Tweetup with Josh Byrnes

The Padres general manager Josh Byrnes is meeting fans tonight at Bubs in the gaslamp.  As opposed to the "exclusive" beer summit events Hoyer attended, this tweetup event is for all Padres fans, not just a hand picked few.  Hopefully, this is the start of tweetup events the Padres will have throughout the year.  The event is rather low profile, so I wouldn't expect...

The San Diego Padres have come to terms on contracts with catchers Nick Hundley and John Baker and seven other arbitration-eligible players. Hundley hit a career-best .288 last season with a career-high nine home runs and 29 RBIs. He underwent surgery on his right elbow in July. The 31-year-old Baker missed most of the 2011 season due to surgery on his right elbow in September...

Daily Friar 1.18.12

Arbitration deadline has passed and numbers have been exchanged. The Padres have done pretty well this year with 9 of the 11 players coming to terms with the team. The only ones that didn't are Clayton Richard and Dustin Moseley. Intersting to note that both pitchers also had their season ended prematurely due to injury and surgery. I'm sure things will be resolved before...

Padres Avoid Arbitration With Carlos Quentin

The Padres announced that they avoided arbitration with outfielder Carlos Quentin and Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets that the sides agreed to a $7.025MM salary for 2012. MLBTR had projected a $6.6MM salary for the CAA client. The Padres have two unsigned arbitration eligible players: Dustin Moseley and Clayton Richard.

Daily Friar 1.16.12

Tomorrow is the arbitration deadline, so expect some new contracts to come rolling in as the day goes on. The Padres lead the league with 11 players eligible, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. All players are expected to get some sort of contract, but to what extent is only speculation at this point. This is the time for extensions to be put in place. I think the...

Intrigue but no answers in stalled Padres ownership transition

The Padres are a puzzle with at least one of the pieces missing.
