The San Diego Padres have agreed to a five-year extension with speedy center fielder Cameron Maybin, Dan Hayes of The North County Times reports. The deal will also include a club option for a sixth year.
The deal will buyout Maybin's first year of free agency and possibly his second, if the option is picked up. The deal will run through 2016 with the option year being in 2017.
The five year deal is worth between $23-$25mm with the sixth year option being worth $7-$8mm.
Maybin was acquired from the Marlins last off season for Ryan Webb and Edward Mujica.
Last season Maybin hit .264 with nine homers and 40 RBIs and stole 40 bases in 137 games.
Maybin was set to earn $429k this season.
