In a recent report for FOX Sports, Ken Rosenthal said the Padres are interested in trading both SS Jason Bartlett and 2B Orlando Hudson this winter, and Dan Hayes of the North County Times says the Padres think they’ll have an easier time dealing Bartlett due to his contract.
Bartlett, 32, signed a two year, $11 million contract extension with a $5.5 million club option for 2013 last January. He hit .245 with a .308 on-base percentage with two home runs and 40 RBI. He’s a career .274 hitter over eight big league seasons with the Twins, Rays, and Padres.
Hudson, who will be 34 in December, signed a two year, $11.5 million contract with the Padres last December. The Padres hold an $8 million club option on Hudson with a $2 million buyout. He hit .246 with a .329 on-base percentage with seven home runs and 43 RBI in 119 games.
