The San Diego Padres have recalled right-handed pitcher Tim Stauffer from their Triple-A Tucson minor league affiliate and does not have a defined role yet. To make room for him on the active roster, the Padres have designated right-handed reliever Thad Weber for assignment. Weber will have to clear the waiver wire process and accept an assignment by the Padres to remain with the organization. In an unrelated move, San Diego has also placed outfielder Carlos Quentin on the paternity leave list. He will be back within three days.  Congratulations to the Quentin family and hopefully the newborn won’t have daddy’s attitude. Burch Smith vs. a pitcher I shall call . . . Mysterio

Last Saturday afternoon Padres fans geared up for the debut of Burch Smith, the 23 year old out of the University of Oklahoma. With a plus fastball and plus command, the excitement was warranted. Smith came out and retired the side in the bottom of the first, striking out the first two batters he faced, Matthew Joyce and Kelly Johnson. The reaction via social media was hyperbole...

Tucson Padres to don unsightly throwback unis

Former Tucson Toros general manager Jack Donovan refers to the uniforms the team wore in 1980 as a "good idea gone bad" and "the worst uniforms ever." Much of the baseball world would agree. So, naturally, the uniforms are making a comeback this season. For "Disco Night" on June 8, the Tucson Padres -- the San Diego Padres' Triple-A affiliate ...

A Hurting Bryce Harper sends Home Run #11 into the San Diego bushes

Some type of Tyson Ross breaking ball that didn’t work out was launched 431 feet into the night in San Diego, just a stroke after midnight. Writers have spent the week comparing Harper to Pete Reiser; who was just a young Dodgers outfielder who ran into a lot of walls and never hit more than 14 home runs in a season. I guarantee Pete Reiser never hit a ball this far. Nats win...

He recreated his famous touchdown play vs. Alabama, when...
