Bud Black recently completed his sixth season as the San Diego Padres' manager, and he has yet to guide the team to the postseason. He'll get at least two more chances to reach the playoffs after the Padres picked up his contract options for 2013 and 2014 on Monday. "Buddy has a keen insight into team dynamics and creates a great environment for the players and coaching staff," Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said in a statement. "He is a gifted leader with a terrific mind for the game and a genuine interest and curiosity related to all areas of our organization." Since taking over the team prior to the 2007 season, Black has a 464-509 record (.577).
