PLAYERS: Micah Owings
TEAMS: San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres have requested unconditional release waivers for pitcher turned pinch hitter Micah Owings, Corey Brock of MLB.com reports. Back in July, Owings hinted at trying to become an everday player to be able to hit more often. “I haven't given up pitching, but I'm following my conviction to pick up a bat,” said Owings. “A lot of attention will be given to the forearm for this change, but the bottomline is that I want to go this direction. The club is behind it, and I'm grateful for that.” Owings, 30, has a career 32-33 record with a 4.86 ERA, 1.2 HR/9, 3.9 BB/9 and 6.5 SO/9 in 483.0 innings with the Diamondbacks, Reds and Padres. As a hitter, Owings is a lifetime .283/.310/.502 hitter with 9 HR's, 35 RBI's and a 106 OPS+. Image by CEBImagery.com under the Creative Commons License Agreement.

The San Diego Padres plan to bring in portions of the outfield wall at Petco Park and move the visitor's bullpen from right-field foul territory to behind the home bullpen beyond the fence in left-center. Chairman Ron Fowler says the change is needed because Petco Park is ''the most extreme run-suppressing ballpark'' in the majors. He says it will still be a...

Daily Friar 10.23.12

The Padres finally made an offseason splash in the announcement of changes to the outfield fences. It has been a topic of debate since Petco's first season, and it has finally come to pass in the form of moving the fences closer to home plate. For the second straight year Jedd Gyorko is MadFriars’ player of the year.

Daily Friar 10.24.12

Tonight is the start of the World Series. What started back in February has finally made it's way down to two teams going head to head for all the glory for one year. Do you hear that Giants fans from 2010? ONE YEAR! In my opinion once the next team wins the next year your time for gloating is over. That being said, if the Giants win this year I don't care they have no right...
