The Padres have signed 25-year-old righthanded pitched Jason Adams and assigned him to Low-A Fort Wayne. Adams is the younger brother of Padres righthander Mike Adams.
Adams’ only professional experience came in 2006 with the Johnson City Cardinals, St. Louis’ affiliate in the Rookie-level Appalachian League. He posted a 2.51 ERA in 14 1/3 innings, striking out 19 and walking just three. Not bad.
Adams also pitched briefly in an independent league in 2007, but hasn’t pitched in organized ball since.
It has to be nice for the Adams brothers to play in the same organization, even if the odds of Jason joining Mike in the Padres’ bullpen are very long.
