MVN:
Hey, its early... but in a season that doesn't seem likely to lend itself to using certain phrases, I will use them while I can.The second place Padres will take the field behind Jake Peavy tonight looking to clinch a winning homestand following last night's rain-delayed victory over San Francisco. The Friars are over .500 after their first five games and have Peavy going tonight and Chris Young tomorrow, putting them in an excellent position to hit the road for the first time this year as winners.Shawn Hill got his first win as a Padre and Scott Hairston had an excellent night as San Diego topped the Giants 7-3. Luke Gregerson relieved Hill with bases loaded, nobody out and one run already in in the sixth inning and promptly got the Giants Travis Ishikawa to ground into a 3-6-3 double play. Helps to have Adrian Gonzalez's strong arm at first base. Luke then struck out Aaron Rowand to end the inning. That, combined with Hairston's robbing a dinger and then hitting a three-run shot, paved the way to the first time the Friars have been over the .500 mark since they were 8-7 last April.
