CINCINNATI -- Pedro Borbon, who pitched 10 years for the Cincinnati Reds and helped the Big Red Machine win back-to-back World Series titles, died of cancer on Monday. He was 65. Borbon had been in hospice care at his home in Pharr, Texas, his son, Pedro, told The Associated Press in a phone interview. Borbon requested to be cremated without a memorial service, his son said. Borbon was a key member of the bullpen on Cincinnati's 1975-76 championship teams, winning 13 games during those two seasons. He also pitched for the Angels, Giants and Cardinals. In 2010, he became the...

I will be updating this post with information for each of the players throughout the day, then creating a new post for the players who are drafted in Rounds 9-16 later.
The second day of the draft has less pomp and circumstance than the first, and a lot more picks as well. Still, you must memorize their names so that, in four or five years when one of them busts out, you can say you had a good feeling about them back when they were drafted.

The Reds have selected Nick Travieso in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.

THROUGH THE OTHERSIDE
The Red Hot Chili Peppers took batting practice at Great American Ballpark with, naturally, the Cincinnati Reds.
The Reds dropped the series opener to the Pirates in spectacular form, 8-4. Homer Bailey, who previously owned the Pirates, got totally lit up.
Tonight Johnny Cueto (5-3, 2.54 ERA) goes out for revenge. He’s facing off against Brad Lincoln (3-0, 1.04 ERA). Cueto’s been good and Cueto’s been bad the last few starts, but we really need good Cueto tonight...

It’s just like two years never passed, and not just because the Reds are atop the division again (albeit feeling much less green this time around). I’m also talking about my RHM inbox, which features four emails that I’ve been holding on to since 2010. I was neck-deep in MBA coursework then, so I just held on to them thinking, “someday…”
I figure it’s now or never...
It was a solid series, but the Reds just couldn’t put together the sweep last night as they lost to the Astros 3-5. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have been getting beaten up by the Mets, putting the Pittsburgh Pirates in second place when I woke up this morning.
The Reds are off today; it’s their second off-day in less than a week. Tomorrow they host those second...
After their second day off in a week (seems like the Reds
are dogging it after 20 straight days with a game), Cincy welcomes in Pittsburgh

these two teams have played lately. Let’s check out the pitching match-ups,

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Clint Barmes had three hits and drove in three runs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates extended their home-run tear by hitting three more for an 8-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.
Neil Walker hit a two-run homer, and Casey McGehee and Alex Presley had solo shots, giving the Pirates seven homers in their last two games.
