Philadelphia Phillies Manger Charlie Manuel

Phillies unlikely run has Charlie to thank

Previously I wrote on Charlie Manuel and whether he should be part of the Phillies’ plans for 2013. At the time I wrote about it, the Phillies were dwelling in the basement of the National League East and were in the sell mode. Unloading Victorino, Pence and Blanton were three good moves at the time and honestly, still are three good moves considering what they are bringing to their new teams. Many, including me, believed that Manuel, the winningest manager in Phillies history was on his way out-of-town. Many though that with the new young players potentially coming in, Manuel’s style would not be a fit.

What a difference a month makes as the Phillies are playing the best baseball of the season. The younger and cheaper players brought up to replace the traded and the injured have performed far above what any of us could have imagined. Just as Charlie Manuel deserved to be blamed for his fair share of the horrible season, now he should get his just due. Starting with how he handled Kyle Kendrick and then Jimmy Rollins, Manuel deserves most if not all of the credit for the change in their performances on the field and attitude. Good VIBES can be contagious and obviously the Phillies have them, thanks to Charlie.

Winning feels good and the Phillies are doing plenty of it of late. Do I feel differently about Charlie Manuel now that they are winning? Hell YEA! If the Phillies can continue on this unexpected tear and make it to the Wild-Card round anything is possible. If the Phillies go deep into the playoffs and make it to another World Series, Charlie Manuel will possibly go down as the greatest motivator in Phillies history.Similar Posts:

Manuel- WHY?!

Phillies win again; continue to inch closer in the standings

The problem with a Wild Card race is, and particularly with the Phillies pursuit of a wild card spot right now, is that you have to count on so many things to happen. Most importantly you have to win. Then you have to count on other teams that you’re not playing to lose. Everyone held up their end of the bargain last night, and the Philadelphia Phillies are suddenly 4 games out...

Marlins look to salvage game against Phillies

There's a lot still out of the Philadelphia Phillies' control in their hopes of getting back in the NL wild-card race. They're doing an awfully good job taking care of their part, however. Some Highlights of the 2013 Phillies Schedule

The good news is that 2012 is not over yet.  But it is still fun to look ahead and start thinking of next summer to places to travel.  One of my favorite Phillies things to do is to see them play on the road and use it as an excuse to see cities I might not otherwise get to.   So here are a few of the Phillies schedule highlights that have caught my eye: April 30 - May...

Lee, Johnson Battle in Pitcher's Duel, Phillies Push to Seven Straight Wins

Last night's wacky 9-7 win must have exhausted the Phillies, as well the Marlins. On a travel day, this evening's game got underway at 4:05, so the two teams had to battle some nasty shadows. Unfortunately for the Fish, they also had to battle Cliff Lee. Let's skip ahead to the sixth inning with the score still at 0-0. Josh Johnson had not given up a hit through...

Phillies-Astros Preview

An improbable run by the Philadelphia Phillies has pulled them within three games of the second NL wild card after being on pace to miss the playoffs just a few months ago. After looking like it was out of...

The Phils reached the .500 mark as they hang on to defeat the pesky Marlins, 9-7.

The Phils win their sixth straight game as they finally reach the .500 mark as they hang on to defeat the Marlins, 9-7.
