Cesar Hernandez is a Venezuelan born infielder that was signed as an amateur free agent by the Phillies at the age of 16. Since then, Hernandez has proven to be sharp on defense with some outstanding speed on the bases and a productive bat. As the 5-foot-10-inch 160-pounder has shown in recent years, he’s deserving of considerable recognition as a rising infielder in the Phillies’ system.Hernandez made his professional debut with the Venezuelan Summer League at the age of 17. In two seasons there, he tallied a .296 batting average with 3 HR and 45 RBI in 114 games. The current Phillies 40-man roster member played with the Gulf Coast League Phillies in 2009, where he batted .267 with 5 doubles and a triple in 41 games. In 2010, as a member of the NY-Penn League’s (short-season Class A) Williamsport Crosscutters, Hernandez was voted as the Most Valuable Player of the club by his teammates. He proved clutch with the ‘Cutters, posting a .400 average (16-for-40...

Phillies Nation Interview: Roman Quinn
Recently I had the opportunity to speak with the Phillies’ 2nd round selection from the 2011 draft, shortstop Roman Quinn. The 18-year-old signed late and did not play in any official professional games last year, but did participate in work outs with the Gulf Coast League Phillies and spent time in the Florida Instructional League.Roman is a 5-foot-10-inch tall 170-pound switch...
Phillies Nation TV Announces Partnership with Service Electric in Allentown
It started as a seed in the soil. Two seasons ago, I asked Brian Michael to put up the money for an HD Flip Cam. I though nightly/weekly reports from Citizens Bank Park would show that we were THE insider blog. The “Phillies Nation Phancast” was done from time to time (when I could find someone to hold a camera for me) and wasn’t the greatest production in the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer: Philadelphia Phillies
What else can baseball fans do in January but dream of October? In You May Say I'm a Dreamer, the Outside Corner staff will imagine the route to a World Series in 2012 title for all 30 teams.
After three straight years of playoff disappointment, the Philadelphia Phillies have reached the promised land, and have won their second World Championship in the last five seasons, defeating...
Philadelphia Phillies Storyline: Pitching Puzzle
How do the 2012 Philadelphia Phillies and Roy Halladay measure up to the ace-laden trios in baseball history? Up until now, this span-of-time issue has stymied everybody, but–unlike Joe Lewis versus Muhammad Ali–baseball statistics are plus-and-minus flexible. With a compensating system, you can minimize the differences from the dead-ball era to the current day, including...
Player Profile #77: Chase Utley | 2B | PHI
It was just two short years ago that Chase Utley hit 31 homers, scored 112 runs, drove in 93 and stole 23 bases on his way to a 12th overall ranking. Now Utley ranks all the way down at 77, a ranking that feels more generous than anything else. Injuries have cost him significant portions of the last two seasons, and his hitting skills have seemingly eroded with time. Last season...
Top Moment #1: Nineteen Innings of Madness
Phillies Nation’s winner for the number one Philadelphia Phillies Top Moment of 2011 is … (drum roll, please) … The 19 inning marathon against the Cincinnati Reds! This may not come as a surprise. We remember staying up late, refusing to turn off the television. We remember it being one of the oddest games of recent memory. We remember Wilson Valdez taking the...
Nationals Fans > Phillies Fans
The headline is a bit overblown, I’ll admit, but the blowback from the Nats’ “Take Back the Park” campaign is annoying. So, a few points for those who attempt to ridicule the Nats for having worse fans than the Phillies:
1. The Phillies have had 120-plus years to build their ****** little fanbase.
2. The Phillies have been a winning team for the past nine...
Player Profile #80: Jimmy Rollins | SS | PHI
Jimmy Rollins is a frustrating fantasy player. He scores enough runs, steals enough bases and hits enough homers to consistently rank as a fifth or sixth round fantasy talent, but his low average and injury woes make him a difficult player to draft. There’s a popular misconception that the Philadelphia offense is one of the best in baseball, but last season they ranked just...
Ontario Blue Jays: Paving the way for tomorrows superstars
Baseball in Canada has sure changed since my playing days in the late 90’s early 2000’s.
When I was trying to get a scholarship, I created my own VHS tapes, mailed them out to schools that my family, coaches and I deemed appropriate. I mailed those out with my baseball resume, hoping some college coaches would take some interest.
Nowadays, Canadian kids looking to...

Seeking more offense, Yankees have their eye on Raul Ibanez
(source feed provided no summary content for this entry)
Yankees and Raul Ibanez in Serious Talks
According to sources, Ibanez is willing to take less to play for the Yankees than he could make elsewhere. The 39-year-old batted .245/.289/.419 with 20 home runs and 84 RBI in 144 games last season for the Phillies. Ibanez will fill the need for another bat to fill in as the part-time DH
Phillies' organization preview, Top 20 Prospects
The Phillies have leveraged their farm system to help bring more talent to the parent club in recent seasons, but they'll still go into Spring Training with an impressive arsenal of arms that could pay dividends down the road.
