Memories Of Kevin Malone:
Remember guys, these rankings only include the players I have actually done 'Prospect Profiles' on. So yes, I realize there are many better prospects than Preston Mattingly, it's just that I didn't have enough time to do them all this year.
And as always, criticisms and suggestions are welcome.
Overall
1. Clayton Kershaw (Last Month: 1)-He's up and down, but that shouldn't be surprising from a 20-year-old. That stretch where he only gave up 5 runs in 35 innings is a glimpse of things to come.
2. James McDonald (LM: 2)-Has been solid at AAA, and I look forward to seeing what he can do in the majors.
3. Andrew Lambo (New)-If he continues to rake in the AFL, the Dodgers could have a very good young outfield sooner than expected.
4. Ivan DeJesus (LM: 3)-Continues to hit and walk, but he's also showing a bit of power recently.
5. Scott Elbert (LM: 4)-I still have concerns about him as a starter, but he looks very sharp for a guy coming off arm surgery. Maybe the Dodgers will revisit making him into a full-time reliever.
6. Blake DeWitt (LM: 7)-He moved to 2nd base like I wanted, and he has improved on last year's numbers with the bat. Both the increased offensive output and the positional change make him more valuable to the Dodgers.
7. Chin Lung Hu (LM: 5)-I still like him because he plays outstanding defense, but my confidence in his bat is starting to wane. His AAA numbers are way down from last year, and i'm beginning to think I was right to have concerns about his 2007 numbers being a one year fluke.
8. Josh Bell (New)-The only reason he's not 7th or higher is because of his knee surgery. I really think he could have a future in this organization, so hopefully he bounces back from his injury.
9. Delwyn Young (LM: 6)-Wow, he's been very slow to recover from his injury. I guess it really was a legit ailment and not just something to get Sweeney back on the roster.
10. Chris Withrow (New)-This is a debateable spot for him. I'm putting him here solely based on what he could do, not what he has done. To be frank, he's really done nothing so far because of his injuries.
11. Cory Wade (LM: 9)-The more I watch him, the more I like his future with the club. No, I still don't think he belongs anywhere near the back of a bullpen. However, a young pitcher who has the ability to put up an ERA of 3-4 is a very valuable commodity anyway you cut it.
12. Tony Abreu (LM: 8)-I might be the only one who still thinks he could be an option at second base if he ever gets healthy. I guess utility man is still the most likely role, but he could produce in a pinch.
13. Xavier Paul (New)-He's actually impressed me a lot this year, but I still can't bring myself to say that he's anything more than a 4th outfielder/spot starter. He's similar to Abreu in that he plays a lot of positions, but I have him ranked a spot lower because utility infielders that hit decently are more valuable than utility outfielders who hit decently.
14. Pedro Baez (New)-This might seem a little low considering his performance at Rookie ball this year, but he's 20, so color me relatively unimpressed. Personally, until he shows that he can hit at even A- ball, I can't move him up much further.
15. Ramon Troncoso (New)-I like him for the same reasons I like Wade. From what i've seen, Troncoso could be a really solid option for the middle of the game. However, he's much more raw and wild than Wade, so his ranking is down here for now.
16. Lucas May (New)-He's been really disappointing to me because I actually had high expectations. Yeah, I always knew he would strikeout a ton, but I always figured he could eventually put up respectable averages to go with his power. Unfortunately, he seems to have regressed a bit this year.
17. Greg Miller (New)-Does anybody know what to think about him anymore? He looks like he's about to turn the corner for two months, and then all of a sudden he can't find the strike zone at all again. His potential is immense, but i'm bordering on losing all hope.
18. Preston Mattingly (New)-Okay, he's done better than last year, but is that really saying anything?
Rising
1. James McDonald (0 Spots)-He hasn't moved spots because he was already near the top of the list, but his showing at hitter friendly AAA has given me further confidence that he'll be a solid big leaguer.
2. Blake DeWitt (+1)-I gave him a bump up because of his new position and his solid progress.
3. Cory Wade (-2)-His drop has nothing to do with his performance, and everything to do with the new guys on the list.
4. Xavier Paul (New)-With continued progress, he may yet convince me that he could be a potential starter for somebody down the road.
Falling
1. Lucas May (New)-I may have had him bordering on the top 10 coming into 2008, but I have been let down quite a bit by his showing this year.
2. Greg Miller (New)-His inconsistency is driving me insane. One moment he looks like he's going to be a dominating reliever, the next moment it looks like he couldn't even intentionally hit Prince Fielder in the back.
3. Chris Withrow (New)-So what happened to him being healthy when he returned? The fact that I still have him in the top 10 shows what kind of confidence I have in what he could develop into, but at some point he's going to have to show that he can be healthy.
4. Chin Lung Hu (-2 Spots)-His offensive showing at AAA was not what I was looking for.
