Major League Baseball apparently is in no rush to hand out discipline over Tuesday nights brawl between the Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks. A source in the MLB office in New York told FOXSportsWest.com that fines and suspensions wont be announced until Friday. Both teams are off today, with the Dodgers opening a three-game series at Pittsburgh on Friday. League executives still need to sign off on which participants are to be disciplined, the source said. Its possible that a number of players and coaches from each team, plus Dodgers manager Don Mattingly and Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson, could face fines, suspensions or both. Almost certain to suspended are Gibson and Arizona pitcher Ian Kennedy, who hit Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke in the shoulder even after both sides had been warned by umpires. But the Dodgers are at risk, too. Rookie Yasiel Puig was among the more aggressive participants, punching Diamondbacks infielder Eric Hinske in the back of the head before he was pulled away by teammates. Puig, relief pitcher Ronald Belisario and hitting coach Mark McGwire were ejected from the game. Pitchers Josh Beckett and Chris Capuano, who are on the disabled list, could also be among those hit with fines. Disabled player are permitted in the dugout during games but are not allowed to enter the field of play. Any Dodgers who are suspended will likely appeal and have their cases heard next Monday when the team has an off day in New York before opening a two-game series against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
