According to MLB.com, Rangers’ lefty Matt Harrison will be out until after the all-star break with a herniated disc in his lumbar spine. Rangers’ GM Jon Daniels said Harrison is scheduled to have back surgery on Tuesday. Bad break for the Rangers, as this is not an easy surgery to bounce back from, especially mid-season with the pressures of returning for the playoff stretch run squarely on his shoulders. Surgery to repair/offload a herniated disc should keep him out approximately 3 months, with his response to rehab and the presence of (or lackthereof) post-surgical swelling being key factors in determining his return date.
