Texas Rangers superstar Josh Hamilton’s life is a story of temptation, failure, and outright despair turned success and redemption as he overcame a crippling drug addiction to become one of the most feared hitters in all of baseball.  Sure he’s had a couple of slip-ups over the last few years, but for the most part he’s been clean and sober since 2005, thanks in large part to his family and his faith.

Sounds almost good enough to be a Hollywood movie, don’t ya think?  Well Thunder Road Pictures thinks it is, so much so that according to Deadline.com they are shopping the idea for the biopic based on Hamilton’s life that is set to be written and directed by Casey Affleck.  The true story of an athlete hitting rock bottom then climbing their way out of the gutter to the top of their sport is the sort of tale that Tinsel Town just loves, because the movie going crowd will just eat it up.

Details are few, other than Hamilton and his wife Katie will co-produce the flick, along with Hamilton’s business manager Steve Reed.  That won’t stop us from casting the film, and I’ve got the absolute perfect person to play the 31-year-old outfielder.

Cole Hauser, star of such films as Pitch Black, Paparazzi, Dazed and Confused, and Good Will Hunting, the Academy Award winning movie he was in with Affleck.  Not only is Hauser athletically built and a damn fine actor, his resemblance to Hamilton is uncanny, right down to the identical wavy dirty blond hair.  It’s like they were separated at birth or cloned by aliens or something.

Of course, bearing a striking resemblance to the person you’re portraying on film isn’t always needed for a baseball movie to be great, right Ray Liotta?

My final suggestion would be to cast Sherman Hemsley as Rangers manager Ron Washington, because not only would George Jefferson bring a dignified, understated presence to the role, but I’m sure Hemsley would appreciate the work.
