PLAYERS: Matt Kemp
TEAMS: Los Angeles Dodgers

Matt Kemp of the Los Angeles Dodgers got off to a phenomenal start this season, but it isn’t likely the all-star outfielder will win consecutive player of the month awards.  Kemp is heading to the 15-Day DL with a strained left hamstring, after initially suffering the injury on May 5th and then exacerbating it on Sunday.

Kemp’s productivity had diminished since May 5th and a trip to the DL is probably the best thing for him.  However, the injury will bring an end to his 399 consecutive game streak –  longest amongst active players.

Kemp has been the main source of offense for Los Angeles so far this season, ranking in the top five in the National League in Batting Average (.359), Home Runs (12) and RBI’s (28).

Matt Kemp Lands On DL, Sands Recalled

The Dodgers iron man Matt Kemp has been placed on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring. In a subsequent move Jerry Sands was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. Kemp, April's NL player of the month, was leading the NL in all three Triple Crown categories. On top of that, Kemp had played in a Major League high 399 games, last missing a game on August 18, 2009. That...

Kemp departs after reinjuring hamstring

Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp has left Wednesday night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers after apparently re-injuring the left hamstring that kept him out of the lineup for two weeks. Playing his second game since coming off the disabled list, Kemp walked in the first inning and came all the way around on a two-out double to left-center by Andre Ethier. Kemp...

Kemp injury won't derail Dodgers

All those wins that the Dodgers banked in the first six weeks will come in handy now. The loss of center fielder Matt Kemp, who went on the 15-day disabled list Monday night because of a mild left hamstring strain, is a significant blow -- Kemp and Andre Ethier have combined to drive in 40 percent of the Dodgers' runs. Still, the Dodgers (24-11) rank third in the National League...

What does Matt Kemp's injury mean for the Dodgers?

Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp was placed on the 15-day DL yesterday with a strained hamstring, and the team recalled Jerry Sands from AAA to replace him on the roster. Kemp is only expected to miss the minimum 15 days, and should be ready to go on May 29th. The Dodgers might not miss him all that much, with the 6.5 game lead they have over the Giants in the NL West, and only three...

D-backs try to stop skid in finale with Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers will have to deal with an extended absence from Matt Kemp for the first time in over five years. For one game, they didn't seem to miss him. The Dodgers will be without their most feared hitter again Tuesday night when they try to match their longest winning streak of the season by sweeping this two-game set with the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. Los...

D-backs have tough test in Dodgers series

Just as they were getting on a roll following a lackluster stretch, the Los Angeles Dodgers are facing some uncertainty regarding the health of their top hitter. With Matt Kemp's chances of playing a 400th consecutive game unlikely, the Dodgers look to extend their winning streak to five Monday night against the slumping Arizona Diamondbacks. Kemp left in the third inning of...

Ethier makes first start as a center fielder

Given that Matt Kemp followed up his National League MVP runner-up season with a blistering start to the 2012 campaign, it's safe to say the Los Angeles Dodgers will have a hard time replacing their All-Star center fielder. Kemp, hitting .359 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI on the season, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a strained left hamstring. For the vast...

Matt Kemp & Juan Uribe Go Down, Jerry Sands & Elian Herrera Come Up

Matt Kemp will head to the disabled list with a hamstring problem and Jerry Sands will take his place. The Dodgers lost their best player on Monday night as Matt Kemp was placed on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain. The news was pretty much expected since before the game, when manager Don

With no other options, Gordon remains leadoff

Dee Gordon has had a rough start to the 2012 season, but the Dodgers don't have plans to move him down in the lineup, or to the bench, anytime soon. Gordon had an 0-for-14 slump through Sunday and is hitting .211 with a .250 on-base percentage. He was held out of the starting lineup Sunday for just the fifth time in 34 games this season. Manager Don Mattingly doesn't plan...

Kershaw, Ethier lead Dodgers over D-backs

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- The news that Matt Kemp was going onto the disabled list took some of the attention away from Clayton Kershaw's latest gem -- and his exchange of brushback pitches with fellow ace Ian Kennedy. Kemp, the Dodgers All-Star center fielder, was downcast following Monday night's 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, knowing he'll be sidelined for at...
