The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Juan Rivera and cash considerations from the Toronto Blue Jays for a player to be named later, according to Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times. Toronto ended up designating Rivera for assignment on July 3rd. In a separate but related move, the Dodgers designated Marcus Thames for assignment, but I wouldn't expect us to have as much luck.Rivera, 33, hit .243/.305/.360 for the Blue Jays in 275 plate appearances, playing the corner outfield, first base, and DH'd a handful of inter-league games. Rivera is a right-handed hitter who is supposed to handle lefties well, which is exactly what the Dodgers thought they got when they signed Thames for $1MM six months ago. Thames struggled tremendously in 70 plate appearances, I wish I could say I am surprised about this but I'm really not. There is a large cloud of concern growing on the web as it relates to who the player to be named later might be, personally I'm not really worried ...
