No Guts, No Glory:
Back in January, there was a story floating around about Roy Halladay being part of a fishing expedition that helped tow a naked man’s boat. From there, the story got twisted and all of a sudden, Halladay was said to have been wrestling giant snakes in the Amazon. While a “Roy Halladay was wrestling giant snakes!” story would be the best thing since sliced bread, it unfortunately didn’t happen that way. But the real story isn’t too shabby either. Here’s Halladay reminiscing about the ordeal: “I was not wrestling snakes. I was nowhere near snakes. We were just driving back. We had been fishing all day and we were on the boat driving back and we happened to see a guy sitting on the shore line without clothes. We couldn’t talk to him. The guides had to talk to him. They were speaking Portuguese. He had been attacked by a snake and escaped, but it had ripped the engine off the boat and left all his stuff out in the middle of the river. So we picked up his stuff and drove him back to h...
BEST OF MAXIM
You know that guy on the Dos Equis commercial? I’m starting to think he may not be the most interesting man in the world. Having a mother who has a tattoo that reads “Son” or being allowed to touch the art at a museum is pretty boss, but Roy Halladay may have him beat. The car you see above is what the Doc whipped to Phillies training camp over the weekend. Would you expect...

DOC IN THE AMAZONThe tall tale was just that. While in the Amazon over the winter, Roy Halladay and friends (including Chris Carpenter and B.J. Ryan) came across a local man whose boat had been overturned by a large snake – the mighty anaconda, to be specific. But the legend of Halladay wrestling the snake in the muddy waters of the rainforest was false. In fact, Halladay said he...

Just imagine, Roy Halladay can improve in 2012
We know Roy Halladay is good and without question he is the ace of aces on the Phillies pitching staff. Following a 2010 Cy Young Award winning season in his first year in red pinstripes Halladay went out and had another Cy Young-worthy season (finishing second to Clayton Kershaw), with a higher win percentage (but two fewer actual...
When you're Roy Halladay there is very little that you are not allowed to do, even if it means you show up to spring training in a custom-restored hot rod grinning like a teenage boy who just got his first HJ. Looking good. Feeling good. Look out NL.[The Big Lead]

With camps opening in Florida and Arizona, it's time for the by the numbers puff pieces in MLB. For Philly, that's all about Roy Halladay saving some dudes from an anaconda (um, yeesh)... and Jonathan Papelbon greeting the media and talking about the last time he took the mound, with the Red Sox's playoff lives on the line and a dome half-full of people who wanted to...
Starting pitchers are difficult to assess. They’re a deep pool of talent, but they can also have widely variable results. Injuries steal a few elite hurlers every season, much to their owners’ chagrins, and there are always a few breakouts who no one saw coming. My rankings took a number of things into consideration: strikeouts, walks, groundball rate, xFIP, innings pitched...
