Roy Halladay is back in the major leagues. The Philadelphia Phillies had planned to have Halladay, 36, make one more rehab start with Double-A Reading on Sunday but opted to call the former Cy Young winner back to the majors after Tyler Cloyd was needed in relief during an 18-inning game on Saturday. Halladay went six innings in each of his rehab starts and should not be limited to any sort of inning or pitch count in Sunday’s game against Arizona. In seven starts this season Halldaywas 2-4 with a 8.65 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. He will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Why Rush Halladay Back? To Try To Trade Him?

With the ink barely drying on the tale of Roy Halladay‘s successful comeback start against the Diamondbacks, I’m here to suggest something pretty outrageous. The serendipitous aligning of the stars that allowed Halladay to pitch on Sunday was long ago a plan written in ink, Whited Out, and then put back down in Sharpie. The detour came last Tuesday night, when Doc threw only...

Phillies' Roy Halladay has encouraging outing Sunday

The Philadelphia Phillies saw the return of pitcher Roy Halladay on Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks.  He rejoined the rotation after missing three months recovering from right shoulder surgery.  His performance was very encouraging and may give the Phillies something to think about heading into the off season. As reported by Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, Halladay...

18-inning Marathon Results in Early Return For Doc

Roy Halladay, Image- Jay Floyd Righty hurler Roy Halladay, who was slated to appear in another rehab outing for Double-A Reading on Sunday will return to the big league club instead, following a marathon of baseball Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park. In Saturday night’s (Sunday morning’s?) 12-7 defeat at the hands of the Diamondbacks, the Phillies sent nine pitchers and two...

Halladay Sharp as Phils Take Series

Roy Halladay wasn’t expected to start on Sunday for the Phillies. He was also not expected to throw more than 100 pitches. What he did was turn in a quality start in a very spur of the moment type situation for the Phillies. He hit spots, managed his pitch count well, and avoided big innings […]

Halladay Shows Signs of Life In Return After Surgery

After missing 3 months of the season due to right shoulder surgery, Roy Halladay finally returned to the mound for the Phillies yesterday. The stars aligned in favor of Sunday ticket holders when the Phillies used up originally scheduled starter Tyler Cloyd in Saturday night’s 18 inning, 7-hour marathon loss to the Diamondbacks. Halladay was supposed to make a rehab start in Reading...

Roy Halladay Not Back, But Back

In a sense, Sunday’s Phillies game shouldn’t have been too important. It’s long been apparent the Phillies aren’t going anywhere, or at least, they’re not going where they’d like. The Nationals, too, probably aren’t going anywhere, and while their playoff hopes aren’t quite so dashed, they’re hardly in the picture. And on the mound, the […]

Phillies Activate Roy Halladay

Doc Halladay is back with the Phillies after having undergone arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder back in May. Halladay was ready to start what would’ve been this third minors game with Double A Reading when he got the call to come back up after their originally scheduled starter  had to pitch in relief in an 18-inning long game on Saturday. Now that he’s been activated...

He's back! Roy starts Sunday — Jim Salisbury (@JSalisburyCSN) August 25, 2013 Expect more moves to help the bullpen after this one. Halladay had been slated to start for AA Reading, but instead he will join the big club. He may not be perfect, but hopefully he can give them...

Roy Halladay to start Sunday for Phillies

Before Ryne Sandberg sent Tyler Cloyd from the dugout to the bullpen in the 11th inning he made a phone call. The Phillies needed to know if Roy Halladay could start in the majors — not double A — before burning Cloyd Sunday's scheduled pitcher. The first call went to general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. who was not in Philadelphia. He communicated with Halladay already in Reading...

D-backs, Phillies right back at it in series finale

The Diamondbacks could desperately use another complete game from Patrick Corbin, something he gave them in his most recent start. The Phillies certainly can't count on a similarly lengthy outing from Roy Halladay. After Saturday's 18-inning marathon, the Diamondbacks and Phillies will have some beat-up bullpens in Sunday's finale as Halladay makes his surprise return...
